Help! How to cut first lock of hair?

DD is almost 4 and would like me to (try to) cut her hair. She’s got beautiful loose curls so I’ve been putting her first haircut off because I’m scared the curls will be cut off.

Anyway, I’ve decided I’ll do it for her but I want to keep a lock of hair. Do I just cut it off and pop it in an envelope? How do I keep the hairs in the lock of hair together? Won’t they just all come apart in the envelope?

Can’t help with the cutting, but if you want to keep a lock I’d suggest tying it with a little bit of ribbon

I used one of the little plastic ziplock bags you get sometimes with buttons in when you buy new clothes. If you get it ever so slightly damp it'll hold together better. I did DS's first lock a good 6-8 months ago and it's still holding together perfectly.

Oh thanks for the suggestions! I don’t have any ribbon but I do have a little zip seal bag so will try that ☺️

Tie it with cotton, dental floss or something like thin wire if you don't have any ribbon. That will keep the lock together.
