So who's cut their own hair?

I did
I watched a few YouTube videos and then cut about 4 inches off
I'm not sure id recommend it if your hair is something you're proud of but mine has always been really shit and I was planning on getting it all chopped off anyway. I haven't done anything that can't be rectified when the salons opened and I think it looks ok considering
I'm 5 months pp and it's been falling out all over the place ,dry as straw and looked awful

I have, it's fairly short hair though so I ordered some clippers and used those. A bit awkward doing the back but I managed using a couple of mirrors. It looks pretty good if I say so myself, I might continue even once lockdown is over, I'd save a considerable amount of money on haircuts.

I feel loads better for it as well, sort of "lighter" somehow.

Me too Grin

It needed doing way befirenlock down and was all scraggly at the ends I cut It into a Bob which was way shorter than I wanted but I cut the pony tail off Haha. Its def not straight but it doesn't look horrendous

When do you think hairdressers will be allowed to open?

dementedma · 21/05/2020 18:27

I got 18 year old DS to do it, and he did a decent enough job. have clippers and proper hairdressing scissors.

July for hairdressers hopefully Smile

2020hello · 21/05/2020 18:27

I agree with the lighter feeling @SerPants Smile
It was very strange!

bigchris · 21/05/2020 18:28

I got my mate at work to do mine last week Grin

Andylion · 21/05/2020 18:29

I cut my bangs.

I also bought clippers for the cat but I wish I'd got better ones
She hates it and they're too slow so now I've got a half shaved cat which looks ridiculous
I also used them to shave my baby's mullet off Grin when he's older I can tell him I shaved off the mullet he was born with , with pet clippers during lockdown Grin
DH asked me weeks ago to cut his but I refused. I don't want to be responsible if it went wrong

I can very proudly say I cut my 16 sons hair a few days ago. He has thick wild hair and it really needed doing. As u can imagine if I did it wrong the world would have ended as we know it.

At the end when he saw it he said he preferred it this way than when the hair dresser did it.

Oh yes. I smiled a lot that day.

Paranoidmarvin · 21/05/2020 19:06

16 year old son. Not 16 sons obviously Grin

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 21/05/2020 19:07

I've done mine and dds. I always do the "mumsnet cut" on mine so I trialled it on dd and it looked lovely on her too.

Wimpeyspread · 21/05/2020 19:09

Just shaved mine all off - couldn’t stand it any longer! By the time I go anywhere interesting it will have grown back. It’s also not coloured for the first time in 3 years - quite interesting

Fleamaker123 · 21/05/2020 19:13

I've cut and coloured mine. Looks ok. I won't be going back to hairdressers.

WoollyFoolly · 21/05/2020 19:18

I've cut mine short, very happy with it. It's a haircut I've had for years but was growing it out and then decided to go back to the short cut. Bit tricky doing the back but I have curly hair so it's very forgiving.

Comps83 · 21/05/2020 19:18

I always dye my own but haven't for... I can't even remember . It's one of those tasks I absolutely HATE doing

I've gone from a blonde bob to a salt and pepper pixie cut. Very happy with it Grin

Gotakeahike · 21/05/2020 19:21

I have a long pixie cut that was growing out into a mullet so I had dh give me an undercut. I love it! I used to give dh a tapered cut with clippers all the time so I’ve been doing that again. I think he’ll be glad to go back to a proper barber again though Grin DS1 won’t let me near him with the clippers and I don’t do scissor cuts so he is tolerating long hair...it’s longer than mine at the moment. 😂 DS2 has wonderful wild hair anyway so this is suiting him well.

Maisieme · 21/05/2020 19:21

My husband used the clippers on mine on a longish setting. I’m loving my short style and not going to go back to the hairdresser after.

Minesril · 21/05/2020 19:24

I cut my own fringe before lockdown! I think I'm ok at it. The rest of my hair I'm growing out anyway.

Comps83 · 21/05/2020 22:42

I'm not sure I'll keep it up after lockdown . I haven't tried straightening it yet as I don't think it would stand up to scrutiny
