Help me like wine.

Hi all,

I really want to like white wine but I cannot find one I like. All my friends love nothing more than a nice cold glass of wine and I just don't ( it's bugged me since I was in my 20's, I'm now 40's). I honestly just don't understand what's so nice about it, it makes my head hurt, makes me thirsty for water and just doesn't taste nice. I do enjoy red wine with a meal, and enjoy champagne as well. Can't stand dry white wine or Prosecco and the smell of rose makes me heave! Can any of you lovely people suggest something sweet ( not lambrini lol) that I might enjoy?

I bet once you admit you don't like it someone else will come forward too Smile

Can't you just order a red wine or glass of champagne for yourself?

I only started drinking wine because it was the thing that was always free at weddings.

Now I quite like it but often (unless it's a really good wine) the first sip tastes like vinegar - improves on subsequent sips!

So perseverance would be my recommendation!

I'm normally a red wine drinker but occasionally have fizz - or white wine in summer.

I had a 19 Crimes Chardonnay a couple of weeks ago and it was very morish though in a way I don't often find with white.

I don't like any wine! I only like cocktails or Malibu and coke Blush it's abit annoying for social events, I'll maybe have a glass of Prosecco but not really enjoy it. I'm just not classy enough Grin

If you don't like dry white wine, Inextremis's suggestion of Gewürztraminer is good. Also Riesling or Vouvray. Be careful no-one offers you a dessert wine likeSauternes or Moscatel. They are really sweet - lovely but not the same as the bone dry whites. A wine tasting sounds fun but I guess we are a long way from that. I was going to go to one a couple of days before lockdown but it was swiftly cancelled. I expect an enterprising person is doing wine tastings on zoom etc!

Why not try it with a bit of lemonade?

SerendipitySunshine · 21/05/2020 17:34

Another vote for a very cold alsace white. Not the cheapest but really lovely. I like riesling.

Stick to red.

I don't like wine. I can drink some with a dinner, but never enjoy it and would always choose a cider with a meal instead. I quite like bucks fizz, though, and take a bottle of that with me if I'm going somewhere that others will be drinking wine.

I don't like any wine, it all tastes horrible to me so I just don't drink it.
Ditto, prosecco and gin, and in fact any alcohol that isn't lager or tequila.
