If you've given your tween DC a phone, what are your rules?

Thinking about giving my 10 year old a mobile - but what rules should I put in place? (I can always relax them as DC gets older)

So far I'm thinking

No phone after a certain time at night.

I must be allowed to see all messages when I ask (will initially be checking a lot)

Only kind words are allowed - so no online bullying, nasty messages. Either to be sent or received.

I'm sure there are lots of other things I could add to the list?

I got ds a phone for his 11th birthday, and the rules were largely the same as yours. I also added in that the phone wasn't allowed in his room overnight - I always brought it down to the kitchen to charge.
As it's turned out, he barely bothers with it. He always forgets to take it out with him (pre-lockdown) which defeats the point of having it. He rarely knows where it is and, when it is found, it'll be under a pile of stuff completely out of charge!
I'm relieved he's not glued to it, as was my fear when I bought it, but it is annoying when I need to contact him for some reason.

We have screentime on from 8pm to 8am, screentime restrictions of 30 minutes per day on gaming and screentime age restrictions on everything. App store is blocked and private browsing is blocked. I also have life 360 and find a friend on so that I know where he is.

No phones in the room overnight. No sending photos of other people.
