Ds10 has put quite abit of weight on during lockdown. His eating habits haven’t really changed but obviously he isn’t moving as much. He’s normal quite active and loves running/football at school.

I think he weighs around 6stone9.

Advice please!

Is there more chance for you to get out and play football with him or encourage him to run around to burn some of it off? Swap to less calorie dense snacks? Bike rides?

My 10 year old is the same. I'm. So glad they have opened the parks near us these last few days so we can take him for a big football kick around. He doesn't like cycling much but I'm buying him a new bike today in the hope of getting him more into it.

My sons are 14. I've been trying to get them out everyday and going with them on most days as a family.

They have started couch to 5k and like that. Their friend's family has bought a treadmill. They also take a football out now as there is an outdoor basketball court in our park where they play. Tennis court too.

This is easier of course as there are two of them. If your son doesn't have siblings to play with, can you or your husband play? Start a family run or buy an exercise machine?

I'm realising now just how much exeŕcise mine got at secondary school.

He may be about to go through a growth spurt but everyone benefits from being more active and eating less crap food.
Maybe start going for regular walks and set up daily football ‘training’ sessions where he can practice some ball skills.
