Can I put a normal light shade on this kind of fitting?

It's not had one since I moved in almost 4 years ago because I wasn't sure & didn't want to buy something I might not use (possibly a bit thick but there we go :) )

Yes. Remove the bulb, then the plastic bit just above the bulb unscrews.

I did my one like this recently, just unscrewed it and used an easy fit shade

Oh, brilliant. I'll have to keep my eyes open for one I like for it now :)
