Hi, I'm looking to find out what people think is the best sea to go for a swim in in the UK,
with a view to hopefully going there in not to distant future. By best I mean cleanest and warmest.
TIA

Weymouth is nice because the waves are ultra-gentle and the beach doesn't shelve.

South Devon definitely. We go to a tiny village near Sidmouth and the sea is perfect for swimming

I just had to go thru some photos from a couple of years ago, we were camping in Dorset and went in the sea and it was like being abroad. According to the Google photo tag it was Bridport. Stunning.

Just looked on my Google timeline thing and it says it was purbeck heritage Coast Smile

Purbeck isle in Dorset. You take a chain ferry from Poole and it's just beautiful. Shallow sea which is usually warm ish from around June time.

turnthebiglightoff · 18/05/2020 18:46

Shell bay is the name of the beach :-)

EnidFromGuernsey · 18/05/2020 18:50

Not quite U.K. but British Isles...... any beach on Guernsey 🙂

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 18/05/2020 18:51

Around the Scilly Isles! Could (sometimes) be the Caribbean.

QueenOfTheAndals · 18/05/2020 18:58

Branksome Chime near Bournemouth. Sandy beach with warm water, as it's the Channel.

reefedsail · 18/05/2020 19:07

You can't swim in the Bridport section of the coast, the beach shelves really steeply and there are rips.

Purbeck yes, Studland has rentable beach huts if you wish to change in privacy!

Fishermans Walk Beach between southbourne & Boscombe beaches in Poole Bay

You can swim in the sea at West Bay, Bridport.

You are braver than me then Enormouscroc. I absolutely would not do that. It is lifeguarded though at least.

Thepeabody · 18/05/2020 21:57

Lovely, thanks all.

Sea Palling, Norfolk. Absolutely gorgeous, clear sea and I have swum there whilst seals swam alongside me

ilovebagpuss · 18/05/2020 22:16

All the beaches in the Lizard Cornwall are wonderful especially Kennack sands on a calm sea day. Shoals of little fish darting around nice sandy bay and clear water. We also found the sea really warm in Broadhaven Pembrokeshire.

ratspeaker · 18/05/2020 22:26

Portobello Beach in Edinburgh is popular.
Doubt it's warm as it's off the North Sea but even today I saw several different groups out, some in wetsuits some without.

MaMaMyCorona · 18/05/2020 22:29

Studland beach near swanage in Dorset is stunning

flashbac · 19/05/2020 09:00

Watching with interest...

megletthesecond · 19/05/2020 09:05

We saw two Basking Sharks at Kennack ilove Smile.

I like Exmouth. RNLI in peak season and shallow for quite a long way.

IndecentFeminist · 19/05/2020 09:06

Isle of Wight has some fabulous beaches

Terralee · 19/05/2020 09:07

Also Canford Cliffs beach in Poole Bay.
