What would or wouldn't you have in your dream house?

After looking for a new house for several years, we're coming to the conclusion that we may have to build our own. I find this quite terrifying as we have zero experience, but the thought of having exactly what we want (within reason) is very exciting.

I prefer character properties, so would love to build with reclaimed brick and would want it to feel solid and like it had always been there. Wide window sills, oak staircase, hard-wood floors etc. A timeless design that looks beautiful, but is very functional too. We have 3 DC so it needs to be hard-wearing.

So, let's pretend money is no object...help me build our dream home! What elements do you have that you love? Is there anything you regret? What brands would you recommend?

Forgot the indoor lap pool and serious utility room.

Just. Even looking at lovely property but the indoor pool is kidney shaped. Have spent quite a bit of time working out how much it would cost to reconfigure/replace to a lap pool. Annual leave day here. Have loads of domestic stuff to do. Sod that ? Rightmove it is !

I'd want a big utility room. I'm pretty obsessed with laundry though

@MrsMcTats It'd last about 2 mins in British weather! Grin

@Newuser123123 yes I notice that about new builds too. Would definitely want good sized windows.

The massive Windows are one of the things that I love about our 1930s chalet bungalow. Even the North facing rooms are lovely and bright. A house we loved on paper left me almost in tears, after we viewed it because it was so bloody dark, inside. It was a lovely sunny evening in late summer but you couldn't even tell.

Walk in pantry
large boot/dog room with spaniel sized washing facilities
larger utility than we have now
otherwise quite happy with our home.
would be nice to be near sea/have seaview, thats only other request.
