If you could redecorate your sitting room for scratch - how would you do it?

Please inspire me! I need new wall colour, new sofa and chairs, new accessories - new everything in fact. And I’m feeling completely demotivated and uninspired. I don’t have any pictures or rugs or anything at all that I like and that I can use as a starting point.

Title should read “from scratch” not “for scratch”!

Pinterest is great for inspiration :)

Depends on the size of the room! I really like the emerald green colour palette with lots of fresh plants and a gallery wall

I love the "shades of white" look. Far too sophisticated for my life though!

I'd have a picture rail going around the room and some pale blue or pale green walls with a feature papered wall. Farrow and ball have some lovely paint colours and papers. X

Paper is very out now! All about a (bold) paint colour.

I recently moved into a new place , which was very bland and uninteresting. I decided to go with DH's favorite colour of blue, and used Pinterest a lot for inspiration. Ended up going with a Hampton's theme. Teal couches with blue / tropical cushions, white timber furniture ( entertainment unit, dining table and chairs, bookcases) . Rugs in blues, they look like water on the beach. I styled the area with shades of blue / white / gold. Love the area now, it looks very stylish !

I've gone very pale grey and ochre in my front room. Its bright, warm, cozy and lovely...

Grey walls except chimney which is ochre and floral wallpaper, ochre curtains and light shade, then grey carpet and beight/greyish settee.

The room is only 10ft square so only one bit of coloured paper helps it not feel claustrophobic.

I'd go dark navy walls, tan leather sofas and chrome. Stripped floorboards with an antique stain and colourful ethinc-style woven rugs.
I thinkGrin

I would say find one item you like, a piece of furniture for example, and then build on that. When I was redecorating my living room it was dictated by the fact that I have 2 big sash windows and had spent a lot on curtains (when I first moved in) so I didn’t want to change those. So then I looked up what colours matched my curtains, and went from there.
