On a Saturday morning I used to ...
go in to town and have my eyebrows done (£6 saved)
DH would have a music lesson (£15 saved)
We'd meet for a coffee and snack (£15 saved)

Now I (we)...
stay at home and do the week's big clean (£30 saved)

Despite the savings I can't wait to go back to our usual Saturday mornings.

What about your changes?

I used to drive DD to the stables for her lesson, £20 plus £2.50 coffee while waiting.

Now I clean as my cleaner can’t come anymore and we bake far too many cakes.

lucysmam · 16/05/2020 13:13

I used to race round doing washing & tidying downstairs properly before going to my Saturday job.

Now, I mooch about the internet with several cups of coffee before getting dressed at around 11am (when I would have left for work) and do a few jobs at a leisurely pace.

I actually like things being slower; previously I spent half my life racing to fit everything in.

Sparklingbrook · 16/05/2020 13:20

Depending on my shift I would be at work. If not working having coffee with a friend or mooching about the shops, going to visit DS1.

I can't lie I have enjoyed the leisurely pace like @lucysmam but now I want some routine and structure back. The savings are great though, I have realised how much stuff I was mindlessly buying.

totallyyesno · 16/05/2020 13:24

I used to take my kids swimming and then in the afternoon they would go to scouts and I'd go into town to shop or meet up with friends.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/05/2020 13:25

I used to work

Now I work.

:(

Meruem · 16/05/2020 13:27

I used to laze around in bed on my iPad drinking coffee, now I laze around in bed on my iPad drinking coffee!

IsletsOfLangerhans · 16/05/2020 13:28

Get up early to walk the dog, then take eldest dd to football training/match, sometimes involving 50 mile round trips. I’m not in a rush to go back to that Grin

LaurieFairyCake · 16/05/2020 13:29

Clean the house

Now I can't be arsed and don't care Grin

Equimum · 16/05/2020 13:37

We used to have a ridiculously stressful time trying to get kids in the car by 7.45 for their swimming lessons. We often then had to get one of them to a party, and then onto riding lessons around lunchtime. (Swimming and riding coating around £65 for two kids).

This morning, we got up late. Kids watched cartoons while I had a leisurely bath. DH made brunch and we are only now starting to get ready to head out for a walk. I think I know which version I prefer.

BoogleMcGroogle · 16/05/2020 13:41

On a Saturday morning I used to take my daughter to music school and work on my endless doctoral thesis in the parents' room.

Now I facilitate the four Zoom meetings that constitute virtual music school and work on my endless doctorate thesis in my study. Plus ca change...

CoronaIsComing · 16/05/2020 13:41

... used to take DS to BMXing then on to friends who live near to the BMX track.

...now I also do the cleaning the my cleaner can’t do.

Crinkle77 · 16/05/2020 13:43

@Meruem ha ha no change for me either.

GreenTeaMug · 16/05/2020 13:45

I used to get up, take the DSs to the village for a hot chocolate and a mooch around the charity shops (DS1 is obsessed) and then we might have a pub luinch.

Now I am going into the office as guaranteed no-one else is popping in and trying to catch up on filing. photocopying and other admin that just can't be done at home.

Iamblossom · 16/05/2020 13:50

I used to take ds2 to stagecoach then walk dog and then pick him up, DH, maybe have a mooch around the shops and coffee in town, and i would go to the pub about 5 and meet my dad for an hour, if we werent going out out with friends.

Now i clean walk dogs and drink wine at home.

Proudpeacock · 16/05/2020 13:52

Saturday morning is the only part of my week that is the same now as before. Just a slow breakfast then cleaning the house whilst DS watches tv.

inwood · 16/05/2020 13:53

I used to do a gym class at 930
Take the klids to their swimming lessons at 1130.

I miss the gym, I don not kiss the swimming lessons to the extent I'm considering but sending them back, they're stage 7 so can swim very well.

0DETTE · 16/05/2020 13:53

I used to take my two children to different sports practices on different sides of the city and try to squeeze in parkrun as well.

We are all missing it.

BadJanetsMobile · 16/05/2020 13:56

I used to take my daughter to dance class and enjoy a nice tea and toast whilst chatting to SIL then ferry her to musical theatre class and go home for a hours rest!!

Today I was in the supermarket at 7.50am!!

TheSparkling · 16/05/2020 14:03

I used to either cycle with a friend and stop at a coffee shop for a natter. Or I would sometimes spend the morning in bed with my boyfriend.

Now I spend the morning queuing up to buy bread and milk like I live in the Soviet Union...

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 16/05/2020 14:05

DH and I used to go out every Saturday for breakfast, followed by a bit of shopping, and then maybe a country pub in the late afternoon.

Now, I cook yet another breakfast and lunch, clean up the kitchen yet again and spend time trying to get a supermarket delivery slot.

The only nice thing is that we now have a drink in the garden in the late afternoon - much nicer surroundings than a manky pub!

FuckYouCovid · 16/05/2020 14:08

I used to have a cuddle/kiss/sex with my boyfriend.

Now i don't.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/05/2020 14:15

Our usual Saturday morning is lying in bed, me, DP, and the cat. Bacon sandwiches. That hasn’t changed. In the afternoon DP would go to football, and I would do stuff like meet a friend for coffee, wander round the shops, get my hair or eyebrows done. In the evening either a takeaway or something like M&S dine-in.

I miss being able to do things spontaneously. We’ve always meal planned, but I hate having to do it to the n-th degree to minimise supermarket trips, and also knowing we need to have enough in in case we end up having to self-isolate.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 16/05/2020 14:17

Used to do park run religiously so now just traipse around the same old streets of my hometown!

hippoherostandinghere · 16/05/2020 14:21

Used to take DS to his football match and enjoying spending 1-1 time with him watching and cheering him on. We'd stop off for some breakfast in the way home. DH would take DD to drama class.

Now I'm stripping and washing all the bed linen and cleaning the house.

merryhouse · 16/05/2020 14:21

Either get up to take son to county band rehearsal (roughly fortnightly) or get up and attempt to persuade son that it's better to do homework first and game afterwards.

Now I don't do either of those things, because son is getting most of his work done during the week (and yet has still spent an hour or two on work today because it's his routine). Last week I think I dossed on the internet, this week I baked.
