Has anyone claimed tax credits for a 3rd child *trigger*

I have unexpectedly (details below but I don't really want to go into it) found myself pregnant and am looking at whether/how to claim tax credits for what will be my third child under the 'rape clause' of tax credits and if anyone had had any experience of it?
Thanks

I don't know anything about it from personal experience. But you can claim it if you were raped in an abusive coercive relationship. You could try ringing women's aid and they will probably be able to give you advice on how to go about claiming in your particular circumstances.

SciFiScream · 14/05/2020 22:54

I know a local CAB was able to secure benefits for a third child born due to coercive control. They shared what they learned with all CABs in Scotland and Scottish Women's Aid. Try them both.

Thank you - I haven't told anyone yet apart from my GP (had a phone appointment because I wanted to check if I could continue to take antidepressants) but I will try calling them next week maybe

Sorry no advice OP but

"Were you actually raped?" What a vile and unnecessary response from the first poster!!

CoCoCorona · 15/05/2020 03:26

@Qwerty543 Well not really, because it wasn’t clear in the OP. Since when is it vile and unnecessary to ask a question? Sorry if I offended you OP, and I’m sorry you’ve had to go through this. I hope you can take the advice given here and ask your GP or women’s aid.

tillytown · 15/05/2020 03:52

Hi,
I have no experience of claiming, but I do know you have to get someone else to fill in part of the application form, a doctor, nurse, etc, to confirm you were raped. If you didn't tell your doctor when you spoke to her/him, please phone back tomorrow so she/he will be able to help you.
Your part of the form is your name, signature and the date it happened. The rest is for the other person in fill in.
The whole idea of forcing woman to declare they were raped so they can feed their kids is disgusting. I'm sorry I can't help more. And I'm sorry you are going through this.

No answer OP but just wanted to wish you all the best for your pregnancy Flowers

I haven't had to but I think trying to find a support service to help you through this would be good.

I feel so sad about all this. What if you had consensual sex but your partner has said he won’t agree to an abortion and will
Make your life miserable if you continue the pregnancy... By denying money or being emotionally abusive??There are so many Factors here. Ok sorry you have to go through this OP
