Has anyone’s vagina got smaller?

Obviously it’s the time old cliche that after kids a woman’s vagina gets bigger/looser.

But has anyone’s got “smaller” - or more specifically, shorter?

That’s what it feels like anyway.

Four pregnancies, two births but both by C-section. Big babies...

Or could it be my weight? Although I was overweight before the latest pregnancy and it wasn’t an issue. I’m about three (four) stones too heavy.

Or is it age? Into my 40s now...

I’ve been prodded and poked by a variety of gynaecologists who cannot see anything wrong. When I raise the sex issue with them they don’t seem very concerned or don’t want to talk about it.

Has anyone found this happen to them? Previously no issues with sex or the length or depth (?) of the passage. Vaginismus discounted because no issues with tampons or speculums etc.

It is very common for the cervix to get lower with ageing and with previous pregnancies. If significant, it is a type of prolapse.

When coronavirus has eased, you should see a pelvic floor physio for assessment. You need to strengthen your pelvic floor.

Losing weight will help to ease symptoms. Start researching "uterine prolapse" for help and advice.

But the three gynaecologists I’ve seen have all checked for prolapse. I’ve had ultrasounds and and MRI. They all say there is nothing wrong.

Have they examined you whilst you are standing up? Makes it a lot more obvious what is lower than ought to be.

Sadie789 · 12/05/2020 22:49

No they haven’t but that is a valid point. I could request this at the next appointment- although I can’t quite imagine how they go about such an examination :/

Nor me, but it is often recommended on threads like these.

My cervix was very much lower after the birth of DS which was forceps etc and a very big baby.
You should be able to feel it yourself if you stand up and (sorry) put a finger in. If you can feel your cervix easily with one finger in you've probably got a small prolapse.
You can get rings for that if it's a problem. I never bothered.

Sadie789 · 12/05/2020 23:23

Ok I will try @madcatladyforever

First gyn I saw suggested different positions and “practicing more often” Confused I wonder if it’s the sort of thing that will rectify itself in time or is it always going to be uncomfortable and clenchy now?

I have a prolapse and the woman’s health physio who diagnosed it could only feel it when I was standing up.

Nightmanagerfan · 12/05/2020 23:25

I suggest researching a Pilates technique called “low pressure fitness” that has excellent results with pelvic floor and prolapse rehabilitation. I am using the techniques and have seen good results: it takes a while to learn

Sadie789 · 12/05/2020 23:33

My other question was going to be if you don’t see a gynaecologist about physical difficulties having sex, who do you see... I will see if there are women’s health physios in my area.

And will also look up the Pilates.
