NOT a Single seed has sprouted.. Never happens before..

I'm not a total amateur but I do know a fair amount about plants now.
Never ever before have I not had a single seed in about 60 trays not sprout.. They are in special wilko seed compost in seed trays.
Mix of sweet pea, tomatoe, cosmos...

They were put into a flimsy but effective cheap plastic green house from the homebase with another green house on top!!

Just before that heat wave. Nothing.
Not sure what to do?
Take them out and put on window sill??

They were dry, but I did notices and water them.
They were new packets just before lock down.
Should I just bring them in?

With sweet pea I've always had 99% success and very quickly too.
I'm wondering what on earth has happened with the whole batch.

I had this with tomato and pepper seeds in my cold frame. 3 weeks, heatwave, nothing. Brought them in to a south facing windowsill, 2 weeks and they sprouted. I'd thought I'd lost the peppers because the seeds looked a bit fuzzy (in a coconut mat growing medium), but they're going good now 🤷🏼‍♀️

PickAChew · 11/05/2020 23:37

If they're outside, it's probably too cold for them to germinate.

whatswithtodaytoday · 11/05/2020 23:39

Were they all bought from the same place? If so maybe something happened to that batch of packets? I can't think what but that is very unusual for nothing to sprout.

ThePlantsitter · 11/05/2020 23:42

Warm them up and more water I reckon. My sweet peas have only just germinated after I left them in a massive rainstorm and then it was warm weather.

TimeWastingButFun · 12/05/2020 00:08

Keep them misted with a fine spray of water every day and make sure the greenhouse is open during the day if it warm - you don't want to cook them.

I've got sweet peas in pots sprouting in the open, on top of the garden table. I planted them a couple of weeks ago, I have been watering them. The nasturtiums and sunflowers planted at the same time have only just begun to show up.

I also planted cosmos - I've kept those indoors as the packet suggested they needed warmth (the kitchen table is pretty much covered with them!) - the ones I did in a cheap propagator only have a few germinated so far but quite a lot in seed trays. Some are just beginning to show their first true leaves.

So if I was you I'd water everything well and bring the cosmos in at least.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/05/2020 00:36

Just remembered... I did soak the sweet peas before sowing. I think they may have something of a tough outer casing that needs to be wetted well so if yours were dry they may have just been sitting doing nowt.

Redskylark · 12/05/2020 05:53

My first lots of tomatoes and peppers did nothing. Second lot I kept on the window sill and put on the radiator for a couple of hours a day to. They're 3cm tall now, it feels late but hopefully they'll come to something

Belleende · 12/05/2020 06:00

Sweet peas (any kind of pea) won't germinate if it's too hot. My plastic green house got way too hot had to open the front of it at the height of the heat.

Not sure if the seeds are salvageable, some of them might have gone mouldy.

My cosmos didn't take either, but the seed was old.

Cailleach · 12/05/2020 07:24

They need loads of water. Planted two lots of lavender seeds in March and they are only just coming up now...

PuttingoutthefirewithGasoline · 12/05/2020 17:05

It's set me back... I was hoping for budding sprouts
