Women's Sexual 'Emancipation' in the Last 20 years

I was talking to a young friend yesterday (I'm on the downward slide to 40 and she's around 20), and the subject of how many people we'd each slept with came up. My number was much lower than hers.

This got me thinking. There are least 2 'liaisons', where I went all coy and stopped proceedings because 'nice girls don't do that' and 'he won't respect you in the morning'. In retrospect I should have just shagged them, owned it and had my fun, because, as long as you're careful, what difference does it make in the long run? None.

My friend said that women of her generation don't have these same reservations. If they want to sleep with someone just for fun, it's very much an accepted thing and most people do it.

I was just amazed how much societal attitudes seem to have changed in just 20 years, really without us noticing. There's been no big revolution, but things have definitely changed.

In 42 and slept with around 30/40 people (only 1 in last 13 years). I had a good time when I was younger and refuse to feel bad about it and nor should I. I wouldn't say I felt any guilt or had any reservations at the time either.

Most people I knew were doing the same too so don't think things have changed that much over the years.
