What can you remember of the mid 80s living in the UK as regards house decor, colours, house style, furniture, knick knacks, wallpaper, doors, flooring, light fittings etc?

Also what did you eat and drink?

I'm writing a story need this sort of detail to make it realistic.

Would be so grateful to hear your suggestions - and fun!

In 1986 I bought a bottle of red and a bottle of white Piet D’Or wine friends because

‘We all adore Le Piet D’Or’

Thought it was the height of sophistication.

I was a baby then but from my childhood I remember:

Swirly patterned carpets
Ashtrays everywhere (even on planes!)
Pop Tarts (microwaved to perfection ofc)
Velvet sofas
Wood chip panelling in the bathroom
I recall wearing a highly flammable "shell suit"
Roller skates (bulky ones)
Mr Whippy ice cream

Bulgarian red wine. That was definitely a thing when I was a student. I'm not sure if it's because it was cheap or cool though. Probably the former, but possibly the latter. At least at UEA in 1986

Whisper grey, pink or blue as bathroom suite colours
Gold or white taps

Cheap italian restaurants - pasta for 2 garlic bread coffee dessert and a carafe of cheap red for around £14. In Altrincham, so not a cheap area
