Is it possible to gatecrash a street party?

Just come to my attention that most of the neighbours are outside having a (distanced) street party. Had no idea about this, would it be rude to join in without being asked?

Just go along. We've just had a social distancing gathering and welcomed anyone.

I presume it's for VE day, it's a national thing that's been publicised for everyone to opt in to, if they want. So no, you wouldn't be unreasonable at all. Make yourself a drink, wander out, start chatting and I'm sure you'll be in the swing of it in no time!

(I mean the street party has been nationally publicised, not VE day, i didn't mean that to read like you'd have never heard of VE day!)

I don't think it would be rude. If it's a street party, they should be welcoming anyone who lives in the street. Probably if you go out with a drink in your hand they'll start a thread on MN about people who drink during the day be pleased to see you!

OK, thank you everyone, I'll be brave and have a go! I saw a couple on the morning news but didn't know it was national. Just thought they were very friendly and well-organised streets!
