Car insurance question. Can anyone advise?

Hoping someone can help me as I can't find the info online and any chance I get to call an insurance company (wfh full time and looking after a 2 year old) they're closed due to reduce opening times.

I had a minor accident in my husbands car. Told his insurance company but no damage to our car so didn't effect our no claims. The person I hit made a claim on my husband's policy.

Now its time to renew my own car insurance. And when I fill out online quotes it ask if I've had any accidents or claims so I submit the information. Then when I add my husband to the policy it asks the same question so I end up declaring the same incident twice.

Has anyone been in the same situation that can advise?

Why are you adding it for your DH? He hasn't had any accidents.

I would only add it for myself.

(I am not a expert in any way)

Wasn’t the claim against you as a named driver on the policy for which your husband is main driver? Not against your husband.

You should declare it on your own policy and on his as you are a named driver.

That's what I don't know. The wording is so ambiguous.
I thought because the claim was against his policy it would need to be declared. For example if he renewed his policy wouldn't he have to declare it?
Just don't want to put the wrong thing and risk voiding any insurance

When he renews his it should ask if he or anyone named on the policy has had any accidents. He should then put against your name this accident.

When you get quotes for your car only declare the accident for you as the main driver. When it asks has your DH had any accidents then you put no.

Ok. Thank you everyone for your advice

Normally car insurance asks about claims and accidents. If it was just worded as accident there wouldnt be an issue.

I had this problem, I was in a non fault accident in my dad's car so I had to answer yes I'd been involved in an accident and yes the additional driver had made a claim. I ended up just leaving my dad off the insurance, he was only on it for just in case purposes only. Not so straightforward if it's your DH but it must be a reasonably common occurrence.
