Sponsoring a child

Does anyone do this? DH and I have just signed up to sponsor a young African girl. I remember my mum sponsoring an African boy when I was a child and we would get letters from him. She got a lovely one from him after the sponsorship programme had ended to say he had got a university place Smile I remember her having a little weep in the kitchen over it!

Awaiting our sponsorship pack to find out about our sponsored child, but quite excited! Would be nice to hear about other people's experiences.

Yes you can be involved as much or as little as you want to be with the child/family. Some sponsors have visited, although not possible at the moment. Some do facetimes with their child, which everyone loves! We give regular updates on their progress and keep you informed of anything that they are proud of, like a certificate at school, exam results etc.
You are very welcome to send donations specifically for the child or family. We tend to prefer donations rather than parcels, just so that the money is then spent in the local area, giving more of an income to someone else, if you see what I mean.
My husband normally spends a few months at a time in Cambodia and will take parcels out to the children, but at the moment we are not sure when he will be going next. He is hoping April, but will have to wait and see.

That sounds great, thank you! :)

@PositiveAttitude

Do the children write to the sponsor.

I'm looking for somewhere that my own daughter can build a friendship with.

Hi, yes we are very happy to pass on messages to your child and they love to write back to you too. Some of the younger children find English difficult to write, but when that happens we translate for you. 😊
