Can any recommend a cycle helmet for preschooler?

My 3 year old needs a bike helmet but he has sensory issues and hates things like that. He has only just learned to pedal his bike (has stabilisers on) and we are sticking to the soft path at the back of the house for now but he wants to venture further.

I obviously can’t take him anywhere to try any on so need to order online.

Has anyone had any luck getting an awkward 3 year old to wear one?

would he wear a liner like this under a helmet like this, that you could decorate with stickers? The liner might help him tolerate the 'hardness' of the helmet, if that is the part he doesn't like.

I think if you want him to wear a helmet you'll have to draw the line. Can you explain that he can't venture further without one, let him pick one on line, and then just make it an unbreakable rule that he has to wear it past x point?

We got DD a helmet when we first got her a scooter and it's always been a package deal, she had some tantrums about it at first (she was about 18 months maybe?) but we we're just very firm about it, even in the house. No helmet, no scooter/bike.

I’m trying the no helmet no bike- but I know he isn’t going to back down so is going to end up never riding it. I have one that I ordered online that he choose himself with a light and a rocket on. It made it onto his head once but he couldn’t tolerate the strap under his chin to keep it on and so now won’t let it near his head.

At the minute the risk of him hitting his head is no higher than if he was running along a pavement but obviously as he gets bigger and wants to ride without stabilisers or on the road then he absolutely has to wear the helmet.

If the strap under the chin is the problem, would be maybe tolerate a full face helmet? There's still a strap underneath but maybe you could build up to that being done up? My son's full face helmet is quite snug, I'm sure ideally the strap should be done up but I don't think it would go flying off in a crash like a normal helmet if it wasn't.

I will show him some pictures of a full face helmet but I’m guessing it will be an instant no!

I can’t even get him to wear a sun hat!

My 3yo has suspected ASD and hates anything on her head, but she does love dinosaurs so we have had lots of success with this one: www.micro-scooters.co.uk/micro-children-s-deluxe-3d-helmet-scootersaurus.html
There are unicorn and monsters ones too.

Thanks @Limpshade- that’s the one we have but the rocket print which he chose. I originally ordered the small but had to size up as for a 3 year old he has a big head (and lots of hair). I wonder whether it’s too heavy for him being the medium size.

Yes my 3yo has the Medium which I believe is elsewhere described as Age 5-6! She doesn't seem to have a problem with the weight though. If it's the chin strap that's an issue, I'm not sure what to suggest. Hopefully someone else will have an answer.
