Can I add tomato puree at the end?

I have a beef stew on the slow cooker for dinner I have run out of tomatoe puree but I am working so unable to go and get any right now.

Would you add it later when I finish work or just leave it out?

Just add it later and heat through for a few minutes - it’ll be fine.

You need to fry tomato paste until it’s a rust colour, otherwise it’ll be tinny and sour. If you fry it gently first, and then add in it’ll be lovely. But you’d probably be better off sticking some Worcester sauce in at the end and cooking for a few mins tbh.

It has Worcester sauce in already. I will try frying the puree first, never done that before.

I am guessing tomato ketchup isn't a suitable alternative here?

Just leave it out or add ketchup!

I'd just add a squeeze of ketchup or leave it!
