I just want some peace and quiet!!!!!

Aaaaarrrggghhhhh!

Just me and 14yo ds in the house, along with the dog and the parrot. Ds rarely ventures out of his room, however, he is directly above the living room, sat on his pc, and he taps his bloody feet constantly.

The dog has been licking, sighing and snoring all day.

The parrot quite literally hasn’t stopped for breath all day. Constant chirping, yelling, ringing bells... even whilst eating, he makes noise.

The bloke over the road has been cutting his grass/hedge for majority of the afternoon.

I know in the scheme of things, there’s plenty worse off than me, but I just want some quiet! I’ve got a banging headache and I’m noise sensitive at the best of times, but, good grief, my patience is wearing thin today!

Sorry, just needed to rant somewhere Grin

I opened this planning to sympathise... but... with a house containing a working from home husband, a grown up “child” complete with toddler, two primary age kids and me trying to also work from home... I’m sorry. You’re life sounds bloody peaceful in comparison. I will take your parrot and your teenager any day for some peace and quiet!!! I have resorted to going to the loo for mine- am sure hubby thinks I’m constipated!!!

Grin the parrot would be the end of me. My dd11 seems to have turned nocturnal, she's certainly not quiet going for a pee etc during the night, just drifting off at 3am and boom "DUDE NOOO" ffs.

And don't even get me started on dh being home...

TheCanyon · 04/05/2020 21:26

Ah cmon @Isadora2007 was obviously a lighthearted thread, it's all relative isn't it.

I have 4 school age dc and a very loud chatty dh at home, I'm used to being at home myself doing uni work. I can do the dc no problem, the dh though...

40somethingJBJ · 04/05/2020 21:30

It was lighthearted, yes. I genuinely would have moved out by now if there were any more people in the house - I’m getting less tolerant and sociable the older I get Grin

I was being lighthearted also! Hence me blethering on about my toilet trips @thecanyon
Maybe I should have used emojis! 😬🙈👋

I was just saying today how awful it is that for so many people their issues with lockdown are the opposite of other people’s...
some people are gut wrenchingly lonely to the point it must be bad for their wellbeing. Others are overwhelmed with people around them 24:7. Some people are working hard and barely have time to think and others can’t work and are bored stiff. It’s just so difficult isn’t it- and I know everyone has it hard to some degree.
I’m reading “Dont sweat the small stuff” and today’s advice was “focus on what you do have and not what you don’t”...

I’ve tried hiding in the loo - the parrot just yells even louder, the dog trots up and down outside the door sounding like the cast of river dance are having a practice in my kitchen, and ds magically appears wanting to talk at me about Roblox or something! Grin

Sorry @Isadora2007 I really do apolgise! You enjoy yer toilet trips in peace

I admire you @40somethingJBJ, I don't think I could cope with a parrot at the best of times, dd2 is enough! Talking of her, yes roblox, that's my daily chat now from her. Ya know she swapped a flying bee for a flying WHO GIVES A FUCK

40somethingJBJ · 04/05/2020 21:54

@TheCanyon The parrot is the noisiest bird I’ve ever known. My last one had his moments, but he didn’t feel the need to have a commentary running all day long! Roblox just bores me to tears. I try to feign an interest, but my eyes glaze over after the first 10 minutes of listening to his ro-wrestling antics (see, I’ve got all the lingo!).

If it’s any consolation a teenager, a dog and a parrot sound like the makings of a great joke. You sure you haven’t got a priest hiding somewhere too?

40somethingJBJ · 04/05/2020 22:03

@Sandsnake it’s probably the priest that’s doing the foot tapping above my head, as the teenager swears blind it isn’t him (even when I’m stood there watching him!).

Isadora2007 · 04/05/2020 22:34

River dancing priest would explain it... 😂
Maybe the parrot could learn to talk about Roblox. Please tell me I dont have 3 more years of that joy- dd is nearly 11 and spends all her waking hours on it. Thankfully she chats online to her friends while she does it... so I don’t need to feign interest.

40somethingJBJ · 04/05/2020 22:45

The Roblox obsession is showing no signs of abatement sadly...

At the moment, ds is quiet. The bird is covered up and making little peeping sounds, but almost quiet, and the dog is asleep but not bloody snoring! It’s almost peaceful! I attempted to watch tv earlier and had to put the subtitles on as I couldn’t hear it over all the noise! I think I need to go and live in a field somewhere Grin
