Will the police actually do anything if I report neighbours for selling weed?

Name changed obviously. My next door neighbours son is always smoking weed in the garden (he stays there a few nights a week) and has people coming round all throughout the day obviously to pick up drugs. We share a path so it's not like I'm looking out for them. Since lockdown the son has moved out because his mom is in a vulnerable category (seems to have some disabilities I'm not sure what) but it's become apparent that the mom is carrying on selling the weed for her son! We still have people coming and going a few times a day despite lockdown. She lives alone and I know they're not friends or family as they're always different people.

So my question is, what will the police do if I report them? Do they actually care? It's not like they'll search their house or anything will they.

If you read my original post you will see that I said we share a path. When we sit in the living room we can see people arriving, staying for less than 30 seconds then leaving.

Even if my child doesn't understand, they're bringing god knows what type of people to essentially my front door as we're in a terraced house.

I wasn't looking for advice on whether or not people think I should report. My question was would the police do anything and if so what.

I don't think the police will do anything. At least the people calling aren't going indoors and staying for ages, they're probably observing social distancing guidelines. Try not to worry about it any more.

Beeep · 05/05/2020 09:34

I'd definitely report it. I don't know if the police would do anything or not but they definitely won't if you don't report it.
I'd also put up CCTV.

Selling weed is not a victimless crime.

We had the police around yesterday for our neighbours they were off there heads on acid and weed and the police still did fuck all. We have to live with the constant smell of weed in our property. I am very close to a breakdown with being stuck at home. My mental health is so poor due to neighbours from hell and now we want to move of course we have to declare all of this while the tenant is still in residence. These people get away with it. The police do nothing, and they have no thought for the people who are stuck in a living nightmare. If I didn't have my toddler I could honestly end it all.

Dont bother wasting your time reporting it to anyone. It will cause you more problems than it's worth. And this is why these scum get away with it all the time.

Givemethestrength · 05/05/2020 17:10

@Eeyoresstickhouse I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this at an already difficult time. I hope you find a way out and far away from your neighbours, they sound awful. Please reach out if you're struggling, they're not worth your suffering

@Givemethestrength thank you. It is just so hard. I am at the end of my tether and the people who are meant to protect us do nothing it makes me so angry.

I honestly wouldn't bother in your position incase you do ever want to sell. You never know what's around the corner.

Theresa mays husbands company is the biggest weed producer in Europe. Uk is biggest produced of medical marijuana in the world. It all gets exported though. So it is legal to grow and export if you are connected enough and can get the correct licence. But the U.K. population is infantilised so much we can only buy and consume it illegally making otherwise normal people who like a smoke criminals.

EdwinaMay · 06/05/2020 08:01

They will not be observing social distancing if they come from a distance away.
I would imagine any drug dealers patch is not restricted to a few streets so picking up the stuff and passing it on will be breaking the rules.

Quite aside from the health and bodily autonomy issues, there is a lot of politics and little evidence in the UKs drugs laws.

Good point - in that case I imagine the police would be all over this Hmm

EdwinaMay · 07/05/2020 07:50

Haha, no I doubt the police will be all over this but drug supply is reduced so things in the drug dealing world is a bit fraught at the mo.
I was making the point because if someone asks if they can walk to bla bla to admire the blossom or to pop over to a rellies posters are on them like a ton of bricks. But mention drug dealing and all those that imagine themselves hip and partaking of the odd sniff posters are sneery and sarcastic. Just pointing out the difference.

Apparently the only effect is a slightly longer delivery time. Maybe 4 hours instead of one.

Just pointing out the difference.

Yeast - totally legal product - hard to get
Flour - ditto.
Any illegal drug of choice - available in 4 hours

Let us fervently pray that the War on Corona is nowhere near as successful as the War on Drugs shall we ?

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 07/05/2020 10:52

Just report it OP, they won’t do anything because they will likely already know but at least you’ve felt you’ve done something.

I doubt the OPs neighbours are growing their own crop and selling it. If they are selling weed they are getting it from somewhere else - that’s if they are selling weed, they could be smokers and selling something else.

It’s not nice living next to where drugs are being sold, ever lived next door to a house/flat which is being kicked in by individuals who want to rob the money and drugs? It’s scary, you pretend you don’t hear or see anything.

BeetrootRocks · 07/05/2020 10:58

I don't understand why you have waited to report when it's the mum doing it rather than the son.

I would leave it well alone personally, council flat or no Hmm

ScottishDiblet · 07/05/2020 11:11
  1. Yes it is illegal so you can definitely report it to the police and 2. It will be a breach of the tenancy agreement so yes do report it to the council.
Actuallytrying · 09/07/2020 23:27

Just came across this post when searching neighbours from hell. I've had to endure the same kind of thing. I would have agreed with the first page, where if it's not impacting on you then just ignore it. Thats what I did for nearly a year, couldnt care less and only rang the police if their behaviour disturbed us, secretly hoping the police would smell the weed or at least enter the house but they never did.
Over lockdown it got worse, maybe because we were in lockdown and they didnt attempt to hide their lives from us. Anyway, cutting a very long story short we ended up witnessing a serious violent crime involving the use of weapons, and have now been dragged into their shitty lives.
So if you have concerns, report them and keep reporting it.
Dont ignore it!
Last year I would have said it's just weed, now I know that with the weed comes a whole load of crime you would never want to be a part of.

Lolo097 · 30/01/2021 17:20

And you think if your dog eat it will die ? Read more books and stop watching tv . Or smoke ye this will help you with your brain

AllMyPrettyOnes · 30/01/2021 17:32

Yeah, i'd leave well alone. The world is shit enough at the minute. Nobody is actually doing you harm.

It's going to cause tension if they think it's you.

peak2021 · 30/01/2021 17:40

Report it and see if they do.
