I've never dyed my hair

I'm very nearly 37 years of age and I have never dyed my hair.

Natural colour is light brown with coppery highlights. It was lovely with depth and I never wanted to change it.

With age it seems to be fading. No obvious grey but the colour is just fading... like things do when you leave them in the sun.

I'm going to bite the bullet and dye it. Swartzkoft Live Mango Twist. I was looking for purple dye for DD and spotted it and fell in love.

I'm so bloody nervous. It's gonna come out orange isn't it?

Am sure it will be lovely. Will you post before and after pics?

Stabbitha · 02/05/2020 15:15

I will! I'm going shopping for milk and nappies later so I'll pick up the dye then and do it later tonight.

I'm not sure why I'm so scared of dye, I've been cutting my own hair for years.

My hair has been every colour. I wouldn't attempt to cut it though. I fuck a fringe up every autumn when I want one cut in then spend all year till next autumn growing it out.

I've just looked at that dye. Fabulous colour.

Stabbitha · 02/05/2020 15:39

I'm trying to add a before picture but when I click the post or preview buttons nothing happens

OP posts:
thequeenbeyondthewall · 02/05/2020 15:46

No idea! Sorry hopefully someone who is more teccy will be along.....

Unless you are new and I think it takes 24 hours till you can upload.

Blankiefan · 02/05/2020 15:49

Not to piss on your chips but youre supposed to do a patch test and leave it for 48 hours.

I'm also a dye virgin and have bought a box but can't be faffed with the patch test / keep chickening out!

Stabbitha · 02/05/2020 15:49

I'm not new. I'm using chrome on my phone.

thequeenbeyondthewall · 02/05/2020 15:53

I've never patch tested.

I know that is stupid but equally lucky I've never had a reaction.

Stabbitha · 02/05/2020 16:02

I never thought of a patch test. I've had the same brand dye all over my hands when I did DDs hair but that was a different shade.

OP posts:
itmusthavebeencoffee · 02/05/2020 16:22

Please patch test!!! The first (and only) time I tried to dye my hair was at the start of half-term when I was 14, only waited a few hours after doing one and ended up spending the whole week in my bedroom being called cauliflower-head by my sisters Blush

TheFutureMrsB · 02/05/2020 19:46

The mango twist isn't as bright as it looks on the box, I used it last night and I'm quite disappointed tbh. 😢

Stabbitha · 02/05/2020 21:26

Did you use it on dry hair or wet?

Crunchymum · 02/05/2020 21:35

I'm 40 (next month) and I've only ever dyed my hair once

Went to a posh salon in Oxford, spent £80 (it was 1999!!!) and came away with hair exactly the same colour. To be fair I was warned the colour I picked was very close to my own shade.

I'm lucky in that I've not got much grey yet although lockdown with 3 little ones may speed the greying process up a bit Grin so I've never had to consider regular dying.

Tarararara · 02/05/2020 21:41

Would love to see the before and after. I'm the other side of 40 and have never dyed my hair (other than Sun-in as a teenager!). No noticable greys so havent felt the need to, but having read your post, it's just occurs to me my hair is the same - a duller version of what it used to be, with no multi-tones any more.

Witchend · 02/05/2020 22:27

I'm over 40 and have never dyed my hair either.

gamerchick · 02/05/2020 22:31

Yeah do a patch test. An allergic reaction possibly needing a trip to hospital wouldn't be welcome atm especially.

Good luck.

Stabbitha · 06/05/2020 09:37

I did it. It's too bright and I'm not sure I like it.

We need a picture to compare to the box colour.
It'll fade to a softer colour fairly quickly.

Stabbitha · 06/05/2020 12:35

I can't get the picture to work on my phone. I'll try on the laptop later.

OP posts:
Stabbitha · 10/05/2020 11:20

I'm still struggling for a picture but the colour has settled now and I love it.

OP posts:
HavenDilemma · 10/05/2020 14:53

@Stabbitha It will fade very quickly OP. Couple of weeks maybe 🥕

HavenDilemma · 10/05/2020 14:57

Oh sorry, I missed your update. Glad you like it. I'm naturally a fair shade of blonde so I can't dye my hair any colour Sad Otherwise this would be it!!!
