Buying a new car vs leading?

We have found that we need a new car as current one is not worth spending the money on.

We have thought about leasing instead of buying? Has anyone done this? What are the pros and cons?

Thanks!!!

Sorry that should say leasing in title - flaming autocorrect!

if you mean new as in brand new, then maybe - although new cars depreciate massively as you leave the forecourt.

cars in the 8-10 year range now are good if they have been reasonably looked after, and don't have the nonsense extras that just go wrong that plague newer cars. (Run flat tyres, stupid gadgets that drain batteries and so on). Leasing will obviously cost you lots of money.

I spent £3k on a 9 year old car last November. Of course it is now just sitting on the drive, but that £3k is a year's lease cost for something similar but nearly new. I expect at least five years out of this one unless somebody drives into me. I don't do servicing, just fix, change tyres, wiper blades etc - although most leases don't include servicing.

there is a reason garages want to sell finance. Do the math, as they say!
