Out of date biscuits to eat or not...,?

That is the question!🤷‍♀️

I’ve discovered a box of mcvitties oaty granola biscuits. They are almond and dark chocolate but the went off in January.

Now I know m, I can’t believe it that we have had biscuits in the orchid house long enough for them to go out of date. These ones slipped behind the basket of jars / sauces and I discovered them in my search for chocolate 😳.

I know that best before is not the same as use by in terms of dates. These biscuits have best before 3rd January. If they were regular hobnobs or such I wouldn’t worry but these are low sugar so I’m guessing less sugar to preserve?

I’ve no clue how to set up the bring so a yes or no would really help.

Just go for it. You'll be reet.

SpoonBlender · 01/05/2020 20:07

Chew one. If it tastes anything short of its normal biscuitty goodness, probably don't carry on eating it. A bit of staleness won't harm you.

Allow for them being low sugar and therefore not as full of the biscuit nature as proper biscuits. It's quite possible they just aren't very nice, in which case toss'em anyway.

If they taste nice, eat them.

It's a Best Before, at worst they'll be a bit stale I'd try one and find out.

I ate mint sauce on Sunday with a BB date of Oct 2017, I'm still alive just.

AdaColeman · 01/05/2020 20:13

Test one, if it doesn’t taste rancid, eat the rest of them. These are trying times, and you have to make the best of all available resources.

Roselilly36 · 01/05/2020 20:14

Fgs, best before dates are just a guarantee of freshness, try them if they taste stale bin, if not enjoy.

SpeedofaSloth · 01/05/2020 20:17

Eat them Smile

Knittedfairies · 01/05/2020 20:18

Take a bite; you'll soon know if they're good to eat/gorn orf.

DaisylovesDonald · 01/05/2020 20:20

Wow, is it bad that I wouldn’t have given this a second thought? Blush

Lordfrontpaw · 01/05/2020 20:22

Give one to your other half/kids/the dog 😈

Splitsunrise · 01/05/2020 20:23

Yeah I also wouldn’t give this a second thought! The worst they’d be is a bit stale - but I’d be surprised if they haven’t been opened yet.

Crinkle77 · 01/05/2020 20:24

Yeah just see what they're like. It's only a best before date not a use by. They might have gone soft but it won't kill you.

EmmaC78 · 01/05/2020 20:25

I also wouldn't give it a second thought. Definately eat them.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 01/05/2020 20:31

I wouldn't have checked the date so I'm voting for eat them, it's fine too

couchlover · 01/05/2020 20:32

Go for it. I would (and I would have eaten the two yr out of date mint sauce)

Orchidflower1 · 01/05/2020 20:55

Going in.....

lol. is the packet finished now?

Redcrayons · 01/05/2020 21:25

I wouldn’t have even checked the date.

Mind you, the likelihood of me having biscuits approaching their best before date in my house is minuscule.

LovingLola · 01/05/2020 21:27

Dd tidied her room this week. And found an Easter egg best before May 2016. We ate it.

purrswhileheeats · 01/05/2020 21:28

I was going to say, check for wee beasties.

Too late now Grin

Orchidflower1 · 01/05/2020 22:34

The inside packet was sealed and the outside box so hopefully no creepy crawlies-I’ve eaten two. DH has eaten two.

I found a packet of chocolate digestives which had gone stale. I blitzed them in the food processor added melted butter and made a biscuit base for a Millionnaires pudding.
