World War 3 over "cheating" at Cluedo

Two of my children are not talking to me after a fun family game of Cluedo. For example I am sitting holding the cards for the rope and Mrs White. Child A says "Mrs White, in the Dining Room, with the rope". Child B shows child A a card. Because I know I have two of the three, then, I can now cross the Dining Room off the list as there is no other car it can possibly be.

This is apparently blatant cheating, against the spirit of the game and causes meltdowns. Hmm

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz I typically ask for only 1 thing I don't have at a time, unless it's getting silly I'm always using Prof Green e.g.

You realise this totally gives away what cards you have?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 03/05/2020 18:21

Not necessarily.

Just been inspired by this thread to watch Clue, what a fab film! I forgot how funny Madeline Kahn is "Flames all over my face!" Grin

we're not really a board game family after the Monopoly debacle many years back but I'm thinking of getting some if lockdown continues any longer.

Clue is the greatest film ever made.

cluedo makes absolutely no sense to me. i don’t get it. it makes me sulk.

this may be genetic. one christmas, a brand new Trivial Pursuit had been purchased to appease my Dad, who was prone to making accusations of cheating.

we took the cellophane off the card sets in front of him. within 20 minutes he was shouting YOU’VE ALL MEMORISED THE CARDS!

i miss my Dad. family Christmas arguments will never be the same without him.

(i’m not allowed to play Scrabble as my stepmum accuses me of ‘not taking it seriously’ after my sister played a very rude word and we were both helplessly snorting with laughter. we were asked to leave the room...

That is how the game is played. If they gave up you won 😂👍

Squigglypig2 · 03/05/2020 20:01

My DH just bought us the new version of Cluedo and yes it does have "clue" cards, they are rubbish (make the game too easy) They've also replaced Mrs White the Cook which annoyed me. Miss Scarlett who was clearly a slut.

Squigglypig2 · 03/05/2020 20:02

We threw the clue cards away and played old school style.

Watched Clue last night - we all loved it. Tim Curry is fabulous.

Hooray! Grin Glad you liked it.

awkw · 05/05/2020 11:57

Always forget how funny it is. I notice something different every time

wanderings · 05/05/2020 21:36

@awkw Have you noticed the painting in the dining room of Mr Boddy in a butler's uniform? There's a moment in the dining room scene where Wadsworth stands beside it. Another thing is that the colours of all the suspects' cars match their names (but you have to be observant to spot them).

I'm sure Mrs White would be great on Mumsnet. "Husbands should be like Kleenex: soft, strong and disposable."

ANoiseAnnoys · 05/05/2020 21:43

Cluedo has been banned in our house after an incident at Christmas in which dh took it all VERY VERY seriously (because he’s so competitive) and was writing down everything and trying to cross-examine everyone. Each time it was his turn he took around 15 minutes whilst furiously scribbling in his pad (he actually had a pad of paper - apparently the little slip of paper that comes with the game wasn’t enough).

It all ending in tears with dd14 stomping off and the in-laws making an early exit (although that was one good thing to come out of it!)

In his boredom DS actually asked the other day “shall we play Cluedo?” only to receive murderous looks and swift kicks under the table from dd and I!!!

awkw · 05/05/2020 21:50

@wanderings no! We have just finished it tonight.

Will watch it again before the 7 day trial finishes I think Grin

Sh'boom...
