Best non plastic toys for 1 year olds?

My daughters 1st birthday is coming up, and I want to make a change from buying all the plastic tat (that never even got used!) that I made the mistake of buying for her big sister. What are the best toys that aren't plastic for a 1 year old?

And if anyone has any suggestions for a 5 year old girl that would be great too Grin

Look at Babipur and YesBebe, they sell beautiful wooden toys, my 2 year old absolutely loves her wooden rainbow and rocker board, and lots of wooden animals :)

For the one year old I’d do a book bag with a book and the theme do objects (lots of Gruffalo ones with the Bajo wooden figures and Dear Zoo with Lanka Kade wooden figures) for the 5 year old, probably Grapat, they are beautiful and very good for imaginative play :)

A wooden Janod tricycle? Or the IKEA wooden kitchen!

Brio train set.
Grimms rainbow.
Wooden stacking blocks.
Wooden dolls house.
The only problem with wooden toys are they are very hard and painful when lobbed.

Keep an eye out in the middle isle in Lidl, they do a great range wooden toys a couple of times a year. All sorts, from puzzles, shape blocks to musical instruments, lots of age ranges.

A pram has been a firm favourite since my daughter's first birthday (now nearly 4 and she still fights over it with her little sister)

My now 19mo got this for first birthday and still loves it. Hours of fascination putting men in and trying to pop them up. Wee men get lost easily tho.

My 1 year old has a box of wooden biscuits that get played with regularly. She loves the play kitchen which has plenty of wooden food. We also hav some grimms balls and an egg helter-skelter as a ball run which is well played with. Favourite toy atm is a dolls pram and a dolls cot, she is 16 months now though. I'd buy something for her to grow into really
