Plants for next to the front door

Can any one suggest plants for in two pots next to the front door. Would like one either side - it's dark and shady most of the time. Would like a plant rather than a tree, but with some height and would be for April- October. Also low maintenance!

couple of well trimmed buxus. Triangular always look lovely in pots but equally the round can look nice.

Lavender's lovely but I wouldn't have it right by the front door. We used to and - being a complete wimp - I hated running the gauntlet of bees in the summer.

Ooh thanks @Fuss I'd forgot about buxus and would enjoy some mild topiary!

Lavender lovely too but maybe better in the bed for the bees!

Year round greenery always a winner and you can drape them in lights at Christmas.
Cant beat tinkering with your bush girl Wink

You need plants for shade/partial shade. I suggest Christmas Box. Evergreen glossy leaves, covered in beautiful smelling small white flowers in winter.

Skimmia if in shade or Euphorbia, or maybe some host as? Lavender prefers sun.
