Separately, The Economist shows that closing schools disproportionally impacts the youngest and poorest pupils, with the average 8 year old losing a year of attainment by September. That’s equivalent to a 10% reduction in lifetime earning capacity. Even the best schools are only able to achieve around 40% of the schooling of classroom based lessons. It’s worse by far in the developing world.
