I’m obese, what should my heart rate be?

Mummypig2020 · 27/04/2020 21:45

Just that really.

It seems to sit around 60-65bpm,
Is this normal? I’d assume I’d have high blood pressure being so fat 🙈

Dh is normal sized and his is 110.

How old are you?

StopChelping · 27/04/2020 21:54

I’m overweight and my resting heart rate sits around 56 - 58. When I go up steep hills, or steam on at work, it can sometimes go to about 110.

GCITC · 27/04/2020 21:56

Morbidly obese. Under 30. Bpm around 75, BP 125/80

Im obese with high blood pressure, but my heart rate is always between 60 - 65 which my GP says is fine

GCITC · 27/04/2020 21:57

Generally the lower your resting heart rate the better I think

Mummypig2020 · 27/04/2020 21:57

When I was pregnant the midwife was always surprised at the numbers when taking my bp

OP posts:
Drbrowns · 27/04/2020 21:57

A normal resting heart rate should be between 60-100 so yours is normal.

BabbleBee · 27/04/2020 21:57

Having a normal pulse doesn’t mean you’ve got a normal blood pressure reading.

maxiflump1 · 27/04/2020 21:58

British heart foundation days average resting heart rate should be between 60 and 120...

dementedpixie · 27/04/2020 21:59

Resting heart rate isnt the same aa blood pressure

delilahbucket · 27/04/2020 22:01

Then your heart rate is good but that's not to say your blood pressure of cholesterol levels are. You have age on your side, oestrogen protects your heart right now. If you remain obese, the strain on your heart is going to be ridiculous as you get older and after menopause you won't have oestrogen to protect you anymore.

Mummypig2020 · 27/04/2020 22:10

I’m currently losing weight, 4 stone so far.

OP posts:
Thismummyruns · 27/04/2020 22:12

My resting heart rate goes from anywhere between 57-61. Depends on where I am in my cycle too.
I'm technically at the lower end of obese according to the NHS BMI calculator.

I'm 34, 5ft 9 and weigh 12st 4lbs.

My highest was a resting of 74 last year when I was 'morbidly obese' weighing 16st- but I was also 9 months pregnant.
Still trying to drop that last stone.

JustOneSquareofDarkChocolate · 27/04/2020 22:12

I would be concerned that your DH’s resting heart rate is on the high side. But as others have said your blood pressure is more important and is not necessarily correlated with your resting heart rate.

Mummypig2020 · 27/04/2020 22:14

I really worry about Dh. All his family have high heart rates. :(

OP posts:
JustStayHome · 27/04/2020 22:17

My resting heart rate only ever goes over 100 if I'm ill

tipon · 27/04/2020 22:29

If your DH has a resting heart rate of 110 he needs to see the gp.

Well done in losing 4 stone btw, that's amazing.

Thismummyruns · 27/04/2020 22:32

What is your OH using for his BPM, Fitbit etc?

SpoonBlender · 27/04/2020 23:30

Having a high heart rate isn't likely to be a problem. A change in your (well, DP's) heart rate could be.

DP's fitter than me, and has a resting rate of 78ish.
Mine is 65ish. When I'm fitter, I've been down at 58ish.

All that is perfectly normal.

GrumpyHoonMain · 27/04/2020 23:36

High heart rates (provided the cause is understood) tend to be better as they occur during high or low blood pressure / dehydration / anxiety - so your DH should see a GP.

Average heart rates only apply to the average person. A morbidly obese person with a lower heart rate than expected could have undiagnosed problems - if you are worried see your GP, monitor your blood pressure, and try to lose as much weight as possible.

middleager · 27/04/2020 23:39

I'm 46, overweight/obese by 2st but my resting heart rate is usually 90-110.

I went to the GP about being stressed and anxious at work and my heart rate was 120 and BP 140/81 when he did the reading.

He just said it was all a bit high but just signed me off work for the week.

StinkyWizzleteets · 27/04/2020 23:43

I’m fat and unfit. My resting heart rate goes between 47-62. I’ve no idea if it’s normal. Blood pressure is textbook too. Rest of my
Body is absolutely broken tho

JustStayHome · 28/04/2020 00:03

I went into A&E once. I felt unwell

Obese, short...

All obs fine, apart from my heart rate, which was 124, i was rushed into majors and put on a heart machine.
