Whereabouts are you?

FamilyOfAliens · 26/04/2020 11:25

It would help if you say where you are!

FoxtrotOscarPoppet · 26/04/2020 11:25

Our Waitrose had loads of it yesterday afternoon.......

MrsCatkins · 26/04/2020 11:26

Have you tried a local bakery? Ours near us are selling flour, yeast etc

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 26/04/2020 11:26

Nelstrops online.
They don't give you a delivery date but they use a decent courier and mine arrived within 8 days.

I also got a sack of dark rye from flour.co.uk but they only sell one or two varieties at a time until they run out.
I also recommend some large airtight plastic boxes from Amazon to keep 16kg of flour in.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 26/04/2020 11:27

Oh hey or the other thing that helped my friend out...
1 1/2 tsp of vital wheat gluten per cup of plain flour.

She happened to have loads of gluten for making seitan, as do I.
But you get it in health food shops or online.

I did this yesterday and it does work.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/04/2020 11:28

Our local bakers are selling if you supply the container.

Apparently it's the bags nor the flour that is in short supply.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 26/04/2020 11:29

I got a 16kg bag from my local greengrocers the other day. It might be worth checking smaller local shops.

Ninkanink · 26/04/2020 11:31

Directly from a mill. They generally all have plenty of stores, they just can’t get it to the supermarkets for logistical reasons. You’d have to buy a big bag though, 15kg+

WishIWasARunner · 26/04/2020 11:31

I'm in Devon

Oh yes bakeries are a good shout too.

Longdistance · 26/04/2020 11:32

We have a few deli type shops/greengrocers in our town. They seem to have it in stock. Also, the farm shops are stocked with strong flour.

Anydreamwilldo12 · 26/04/2020 11:32

Morrisons are selling it, they have made up the bags so not factory packed but Morrisons packed.

Oldraver · 26/04/2020 11:32

Mathews Cotswold Flour are selling online.

MaidofKent78 · 26/04/2020 11:33

My local morrisons have started selling flour from their bakery on the shelves. Either 16 kg bags or packaged into 1 kg bags

user3274826 · 26/04/2020 11:38

We've made loads of loaves from regular plain flour, not the strong type. All have turned out perfectly.

justdontatme · 26/04/2020 11:40

Me too OP. My neighbour got a bag of plain flour for me from clickandcollect north Devon, if you happen to be in ND. No strong flour available anywhere though.

wowfudge · 26/04/2020 11:56

We got some at a Sainsbury's Local

Slattery · 26/04/2020 11:59

Nelstrop Flour Mill.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 26/04/2020 12:05

Ocado

GloriaMaximus · 26/04/2020 12:07

The farm shops near me have a lot

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 26/04/2020 12:17

I got some from Asda earlier today, but there was only a few left, so I think I was luck to nab one!

As PP says, I believe it's the packaging that's short, why not try online, or local bakeries?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/04/2020 12:28

I went to Asda first thing and they had some but it was going fast.

greathat · 26/04/2020 15:03

I know of several professional cake makers who are getting big sacks from their suppliers and selling it on. Might be worth asking

HeyLala · 26/04/2020 15:08

Try buying chapati flour but it comes in 10kg bags. It's the same
