DH can't trim our bush because of the neighbours!

DH was working this morning. Then after lunch we all went for our walk. As we were walking home, he said as it was still early, he wants to trim the bush in our front garden.

But when we get back, a few of the neighbours are all sitting out the front with drinks and having a chat.

So I said he couldn't trim our bush because it's quite loud and would be very anti social. He says he's going to do it anyway. I said do it tomorrow but he doesn't see why he should change his plans because of them. (So I'm keeping out of it!)

And no we don't want to join the neighbours outside. I'm happy to say hello and pass the time of day with them but I don't want to sit outside with them.

So what would you do in our situation?

Join the neighbours?
Do the bush?
Or do neither and just stay indoors?

Sadly this event is more exciting than anything that's happened in my life this week

BestOption · 25/04/2020 18:10

@SoupDragon. I considered trimming mine today, but SO & I are locking down separately so decided it wasn't worth the effort 🤷🏻‍♀️ My phone keeps changing locking to licking 🤦🏻‍♀️ That makes me giggle more than it should!!

@EloiseTheFirst

At least he's finally realised how anti social his behaviour would have been!

Its not supposed to rain too much tomorrow anywhere in the uk

Mlou32 · 25/04/2020 18:20

I would just say to them "Hi, I'm wanting to give the hedge a trim, 15 mins tops, hope you don't mind!". And have an excuse ready as you why you can't join them ie skype call with family in 5 mins!

JacobReesMogadishu · 25/04/2020 18:22

Why are they sitting out the front? Do they not have a back garden?

I’d get trimming it. If my neighbours are in the back garden I still mow the lawn if it needs doing and it’s the only day I have to do it.

BrooHaHa · 25/04/2020 18:26

Can you not just leave the bush au natural?

BrooHaHa · 25/04/2020 18:32

*naturel

eggontoast2 · 25/04/2020 18:33

Trim the bush. Their social life is not your issue!

NaughtyLittleElf · 25/04/2020 18:34

That's just standard though isn't it, people out mowing and trimming hedges when other people are sitting out, how can you avoid it?

I'm actually a bit annoyed with neighbours sitting out on their drives chatting across gardens and noting everyone's movements, it's a new thing around here, I'm not that keen on them sitting drinking alcohol effectively in the street, but that's just not something I would do. I judge silently. Someone will come along in a minute to call me anti social.

Lucked · 25/04/2020 18:39

Nope I wouldn’t, it would be very unneighbourly unless they are a permanent feature camped out there and then you have no choice. Another day or two won’t make much difference, it hasn’t become overgrown overnight.

LilacTree1 · 25/04/2020 18:43

Well he could if he’s an arse

Hopefully you’ll never need any help from them with anything.

LilQueenie · 25/04/2020 18:49

why not just ask the neighbours. explain the times he is available and that the next good weather he is going to trim the thing. I'm sure the neighbours would appreciate the warning especially if they are getting today to enjoy the garden time.

EloiseTheFirst · 25/04/2020 18:55

Neighbours are still out there.

Just to clarify it's 4 different houses all out the front doing social distancing socialising. 2 houses our side and 2 houses opposite.

DH has decided not to do the bush today as it's too anti social and it's getting late. He can do it another day.

That's the sort of thing that keeps happening on my street, they've had a couple of street parties, loud music, disco lights etc. until the early hours.

JMAngel1 · 25/04/2020 19:37

A few of the neighbours - is this a gathering?

Samtsirch · 25/04/2020 20:20
