Looking after wooden ornaments

I have a couple of giant wooden giraffes in my lounge. I've noticed the wood is looking not very good and remember I'm meant to treat it once a year to stop it splitting. What do I treat it with to keep it good but it doesn't change the colour?

Try linseed oil.

Walnut oil works too. It will look darker at first but then sinks in.
