I had all my borders cleared during the winter and they were beautiful.....but this weed!!!!

I don’t know what it is, but HOW do I deal with it?

I’ve just pulled up loads of it, but I I know it will be back!!

Distilled vinegar at the roots at every opportunity. Got rid of some annoying bamboo that way as well.

I think I’ve heard Bob Flowerdew recommending the boiling water trick

I was overrun with thus in my last house and was advised to cut as close to ground level and treat each invividual shoot with a chemical called curtail. There were very strict usage conditions for using this but it did work. Sadly the year before moving it started to appear elsewhere. If I remember correctly it has quite a complicated network of roots. Good luck!

I have also NEVER used any weedkiller on my garden (150 foot) I'm not about to kill off all the bees and other insects.
I moved recently to a large courtyard garden nd I do miss my big garden but it's bloody hard work trying to stop nature from running riot.

Convolvulus should not be too hard.Put some canes in to support it and let it grow up them, the longer and leafier the better. Then carefully revive cane and without pulling them from the ground put as much as possible in a bin liner and spray inside on the leaves.Tie loosely at the base and leave for A few weeks.
I spend fruitless hours doing it the hard way until given this tip .Especially useful if it's growing amongst treasured plants.

That should have said Kurtail, not curtail. Targeted on the individual shoots it didn’t appear to cause any damage to the grass it was growing in or the plants or wildlife but it was some time ago

wowfudge · 22/04/2020 16:16

Kurtail is no longer available as the active chemical was banned although I have some in the garage. Those people saying they won't use weedkiller have clearly never had to deal with this bastard! Those alien sporeheads are revolting. I saw one at the edge of a field earlier in the week so now's the time they pop up.
