What "secrets" have you discovered about your partner during lockdown?

LifeChangingMagicOfDoingSodAll · 21/04/2020 14:46

Nothing tragic like affairs, I mean trivial little things that you never knew about?

My late half-Swedish friend told me years ago that her husband was convinced she really was that naturally blonde, and was oblivious to the fact that she had subtle highlights done regularly. If she was still alive today, the truth would be out.

My husband said he was very happy with the clippers from Amazon for his hair, but he was going back to the barber after lockdown ended. He finally admitted that the barber trimmed his ear hair every month!

That mine has a serious love of jigsaw puzzles!

Freshfaced · 21/04/2020 15:06

He's the guy who suggests "circling back" to things on conference calls.

I married a circle back man.
Big shock.

MissingLinker · 21/04/2020 15:11

He breathes louder than I ever realised.

toothfairy73 · 21/04/2020 15:12

@MissingLinker 😂😂😂

toothfairy73 · 21/04/2020 15:13

I've discovered that he actually likes spending time with me.... he was always at work before

BearSoFair · 21/04/2020 15:16

He can't drink a hot drink like a normal person. Somehow I'd never noticed until now but he sits holding the mug for ages then drinks the whole thing is 3 or 4 giant noisy gulps. He's perfectly capable of putting a cold drink down and taking normal mouthfuls, I've been watching to see. Grin

islandislandisland · 21/04/2020 15:24

That he has exactly one and a half sandwiches for lunch with exactly the same contents, at exactly the same time everyday . He also says 'ta ra' at the end of work calls rather than the standard goodbye Blush

MissCherryCakeyBun · 21/04/2020 15:24

My OH baby talks to the cats when he's on hold with utility company's for work ( he has to contact them as part of his job and sort out billing issues ) he spends a good hour or so everyday listening to hold music and baby talking to our 2 young cats. He WFH and does site visits normally and I'm out at work so I had I had no clue. It makes me grin when I hear him GrinGrin

LaurieFairyCake · 21/04/2020 15:31

That he opens the fridge approximately 20 times a day

I knew he was a hungry bugger but I didn't realise how obsessed he was

He doesn't eat chocolate on its own ("it's too rich") so he eats every bit with a plain biscuit Confused

CigarsofthePharoahs · 21/04/2020 15:35

He actually LIKES cleaning.
Normally works long hours so too knackered to bother. I have ever worsening fibromyalgia and had been having my mum come over and help.
After a few days of resting (slobbing about) he's decided he'd rather sort the shed, completely tidy the junk heap of a spare room, polish up the kitchen till it shines and scrub all the hard to reach bits in the bathroom rather than join in with educating the children!
I was expecting to be knee deep in our own filth by now.
He also cooks a really lovely gammon joint.

BarbaraofSeville · 21/04/2020 15:36

Laurie

Buy him a packet of chocolate digestives. It will blow his mind.

I've learned that DP is on the Singletrackworld website for just about as long as I'm on here, ie far too much and from what he tells me about the threads on there, it sounds like a male dominated version of Mumsnet, despite it supposed to be about mountain biking.

Toilenstripes · 21/04/2020 15:36

That he takes the same coffee breaks at the same time every day. He’s especially serious about elevenses.

MitebiteonFrightNite · 21/04/2020 15:47

That he's probably a genius. I mean I knew he was very intelligent, but the things I've seen him do the last few weeks have blown my mind. I have also realised he's hugely underpaid.

SimonJT · 21/04/2020 15:49

Yes. Lots.
-he irons socks
-he cleans things when he thinks i’m not paying attention
-he asks permission to do things “can I get a drink”
-the only thing he can cook is pancakes
-despite not working he is still asleep by 10pm until I wake him up at 9am!
-he has zero practical skills
-he’s still the cuddliest man in the world Grin

Laurendelight · 21/04/2020 15:53

That when he butters bread for a sandwich HE ONLY BUTTERS ONE SLICE!!! who does that unless you're on a diet maybe.

What he's probably learned about me is that I can always 'find' a snickers bar somewhere in the house. He might thing I'm Dynamo.

CoronaIsComing · 21/04/2020 16:07

That he’s actually a good manager, we’ll I’d be happy to have him as my manager anyway.
That he can deal with a crying woman when he has to (for work).

FireandFury · 21/04/2020 16:11

Passes off my jokes as his own on work calls 😂😂.

I do like to watch him work. There’s a lot more sex
going on here as a consequence.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 21/04/2020 16:12

That I really really picked the right person to marry ie the only person I am happy to be locked down with!

Meanwhile my kids are irritating the fuck out of me Grin

Collision · 21/04/2020 16:13

That mine really loves me and loves that he has 5 hours on his own in the morning. I get up at 11 and he gets up at 6.

That he works really hard in the house, decorating and baking and cooking and doing odd jobs.

That he really really loves bees.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 21/04/2020 16:23

That mine is incapable of talking to people on the phone without using loudspeaker. So annoying.

Mine loves baking. We've had freshly made white bread, then the next day wholemeal bread, bread rolls, hot cross buns and yesterday a lemon meringue pie. And it's all fucking amazing. Every day we've had fresh bread in some way shape or form. I'm going to be the size of a house by the time I go back to the office

Pannacottaformeplease · 21/04/2020 19:54

That mine can do gardening after all. Also that he hates sitting around doing nothing and (which I sort of knew anyway but hadn't realised quite how much he hates it) and he is willing to undertake really tedious chores in favour of doing nothing.

FizzyPink · 21/04/2020 19:58

Mine goes for a poo 3-4 times a day!! I had no idea before 🤦🏼‍♀️

Bagelsandbrie · 21/04/2020 20:00

That he can sit in for DAYS doing literally nothing other than being on his phone playing games or chatting to the kids. I am climbing the walls if I don’t get out for a long walk / do something even if it’s housework etc! I don’t know how he can stand it. I realise I’ve probably been nagging him into going out every weekend for the last 15 years Grin Poor man.
