What was the best present your child got for their first birthday?

So there is a small person in the family turning 1 very soon and I need your help with awesome present ideas.

I ideally want a gift which will last a while rather than be a 5 minute novelty. They don't have much outdoor space so nothing like a playhouse would work.

Child doesn't really have any interests and the present could be open ended and wooden or plastic as there is no real preference, they have and play with both types of toys. Budget is not an issue.

What super awesome gifts did your 1 year old get that made a lasting impression? Ideas would be super appreciated, thanks in advance. Smile

Toy mobile phone. Decade on she now has a billion toy phones and old real phones. Bit obsessed with phones.
Actually maybe avoid that Grin

Aqua doodle was very well used here.

Oww I'd love to do a zoo membership or something like that but I don't think it's a gift that will get much use at the moment sadly.

Wheelybug ride on, has lasted longer than the scuttlebug and it's amazing quality, after a year and a half of daily use it still looks immaculate.

Grumpbum123 · 20/04/2020 17:12

You could do an iou for when things return to some sort of normal

Drogonssmile · 20/04/2020 17:15

A scuttlebug. Took him a while to navigate and get the hang of but he used it until he was too big and then DS2 took it on. 6 years later it's still going strong and DS2 is too big for it now!

Smart trike

A ride on car. We were in a flat at the time but he loved riding it round the living room, 7 years on my now 8 & 4 year old still involve it in most of their games!! It’s a racing car, delivery van, horse, teddy car & everything in between. It’s lasted brilliantly and we will probably pass it onto my baby nephew when they eventually get tired of it.

We bought our DD a bubble machine for her 1st birthday and she used it loads as the weather was as lovely as it is now - perfect for the garden but not so good inside if floors are wood/ tiled.

Money.

Wooden play kitchen. She loved it, is 3 now and still plays with it. Her brother also loves playing with it.

Tipper

Straysocks · 20/04/2020 18:26

Sorry, Tupperware with different colour lids. I'm not joking

Celeriacacaca · 20/04/2020 18:55

A wipe clean magic drawing slate with attached "pen". DS spent hours playing with this when he was a toddler and,17 years on, I still have it in the loft!

Windyatthebeach · 20/04/2020 18:56

Blue rocking horse...Little Tykes I think.

Not sure if this one has been added yet but loved then and still adored 15 months later!

Think I saw the recommendation on here.

A wheelybug bee and a happyland fairground both got years of use.

BubblesBuddy · 20/04/2020 19:44

Books. Start with Each Peach Pear Plum. The Very Hungry Caterpillar etc. Helps with words and any rhyming book is good. Even nursery rhymes. Just the sound of the rhymes and the pictures is great for a quiet time with mum or dad. Doesn’t take up much space.

Slippingcareer · 20/04/2020 20:24

Wooden building blocks, played with everyday 8 months on.

Peepo by Janet and Allen ahlberg is a beautiful book, I loved reading that to DD.

.....

He sees his mother pouring
Hot porridge in a bowl
And his father in the doorway
With a bucketful of coal

He sees his sisters skipping
In the yard outside
And his grandma pegging washing
On the clothes line to be dried

Peepo

A wooden trolley full of rubber bricks, hours of fun pushing it back and forward a stacking the bricks.

blueglassandfreesias · 20/04/2020 22:33

DD (now 3) got a pack of Teletubbies for her first birthday from B&M and despite the fact she has every other beautiful wooden/ creative toy in the world, those 4 plastic tts have definitely had the most play.

oncemorewithfeelingplease · 20/04/2020 23:52

After much consideration of said gift my one year old preferred the big box it came inAngry
