I think that's what they're called. Little black beetles that curl into a ball. We have a lot in our house recently I think from the loft!

Anyone else experienced this and successfully removed them?

Woodlice are usually grey.

They live in damp, on wet/eating rotting wood usually.

Why do you want to get rid of them? From your description they sound like pill bugs which are closely related to woodlice. Fascinating creatures (they are actually crustaceans, so closely related to crabs, lobsters, shrimps etc), and can live for ten years or more, quite a lifespan for such a small creature. They are hugely beneficial too, feeding on rotten wood and vegetable matter and, thus, are one of nature's 'clearer uppers'.

You would probably hate my house - I happily share it with woodlice violet beetles, earwigs, spiders and a shrew, which lives in my kitchen and puts in an appearance now and again. Sparrows currently nesting in the thatch and a bat roost in the attic. I am more than happy to cohabit - it is their home too!

May I refer you to a book called 'The Garden Jungle or Gardening To Save The Planet' by Dave Goulson (founder of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust) - it is a wonderful read and helps one to appreciate all the otherwise unloved creatures we share our world with.

I have them in my living room because of a rotten damp porch. Been having issues with landlord sorting it out. The pest control people I called advised that's most likely our reason for having them

Have a good look around for rotten or damp wood
