Anyone care to admit to some poor driving?

For the first time in 30 years my driving was a bit shit yesterday. Had to emergency stop owing to not concentrating. No collision, thankfully.

I have been crashed into a few times, but never doubted my own driving.

I am not that unusual, am I?

No, I don't think you are. I have a massive dent in the side of my car from poor parking. I normally don't have problems.

Things like this happen sometimes and it kind of wakes you up, stops you getting too compacent.

I went to the supermarket for the first time in about 3 or 4 weeks - I felt like I had completely forgotten how to drive.

Dreading going back to work in rush hour!!

I still think about the time I ‘missed’ that I was joining a roundabout and didn’t look to my right. The car in front of me hadn’t slowed, but I don’t know what possessed me. I didn’t cause an accident thank god, but it really shook me. I had the children in the car as well. It was years ago but I still think about how stupid it was.

I don’t really like driving and am usually very aware of my surroundings.

I got in my car after 4 weeks inside and I could tell the difference. I didn't brake as soon as I should have done a couple of times.

I was wondering that when lockdown is lifted I might stay off the roads for a couple of days as everyone who's been sat indoors readjusts to driving and busier roads.

I had to drive OH's car this week. It is a manual car - I have been driving an automatic for years. It was bloody terrifying and I stalled several times Blush

@eggcream I had to drive a rental manual on holiday last year. My own car is automatic. My little niece had a whole new vocabulary by the end of it. Grin

I hate what I call city driving with endless roundabouts and hazards and stupidly designed junctions and pixie sized parking spaces but country roads and motorways never used to be too bad (the further north the better) but after a bout of illness lost pretty much all my confidence. Many drivers currently on the roads seem to think they're Stirling Moss and I am now dreaming of a world with good clean regular public transport and/or employers who will finally wake up and see the benefits of longer term working from home fir many job roles or at the very least staggered start and finish times. Then it's usually my turn to wake up...!!!
