Do you drink more now you're working from home/in lockdown?

Just curious really. I'm not a big drinker at all, but found myself having the odd cider during the day. But my friends have said they see themselves having more bottles of wine than they did before! What about everyone else?

We are, never usually drink in the week but we are averaging 3 drinks a day at the moment.

lonelySam · 15/04/2020 11:50

Me too. I never drink. Except for now.

Liverpoolarefab · 15/04/2020 11:58

I hadn't drunk for 8 weeks prior to the lockdown and was considering going teetotal- I'm now drinking every other day or so , and do not distinguish at all between a week day and weekendConfused

Yes. We normally only drink on Friday/ Saturday nights but are often having a glass or two of wine a day as not got to drive / bored / feels a bit like being on (a shit) holiday.

sugarbum · 15/04/2020 12:02

Definitely. Drinking every day. Finding it hard going like everyone else, trying to work but trying to keep children occupied too. As well as cooking more than I've ever done in my life! I feel like I need one at the end of the day. Had this discussion with DH yesterday though as its getting ridiculous so we both need to knock it on the head.

Haggisfish · 15/04/2020 12:03

I was but have made a serious effort to cutback again.

serialtester · 15/04/2020 12:03

I've had to stop because it was getting ridiculous and beer/wine time was getting earlier. I'm not drinking again until the pubs reopen!

HelenaJustina · 15/04/2020 12:12

We generally only drink at weekends and decided at the beginning of the lockdown to stick to that! We have made exceptions for shit days (deaths in our community) and great days (birthdays) but otherwise have stuck to it.
We felt otherwise it was a slippery slope and neither of us need the extra calories at the moment. Sorely tempted a lot of days though...

Chinnychinnychinnychib · 15/04/2020 12:14

Fuck yeah.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/04/2020 12:14

Yes. I only really used to drink when I went out or had adult company (I'm a single parent) but I'm drinking on Friday, Saturday and Sunday now. Not loads, about 3 drinks a day but starting mid afternoon.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/04/2020 12:15

Disclaimer: I'm not really a wine drinker so it's usually a fruit cider mid afternoon and then a couple of spirit/mixers in the evening.

feelinguseless78 · 15/04/2020 12:17

Yes. I rarely drink but have had a beer most nights in lockdown! Can drink in the day as I'm an NHS worker or looking after small kids, but I've lost all sense of time and appropriateness so do often go looking for a g&t with lunch!

feelinguseless78 · 15/04/2020 12:18

Can't drink in the day, not can!

elQuintoConyo · 15/04/2020 12:19

No. We're both working from home, have a manic 8yo to corral and I'd hate to do it all with a fuzzy head. We'll share a can of beer with dinner twice a week or something.
Life and soul of the party, eh? Grin

Joliany · 15/04/2020 12:19

Yes, I'd pretty much stopped drinking a long time ago, but started drinking most days since lockdown started. I've got sick of waking up tired and feeling rubbish so I've stopped again. Don't want to emerge out of lockdown with obesity and an alcohol problem.

Northernsoullover · 15/04/2020 12:21

I gave up drinking a year ago and I'm really glad I did. I can't imagine the anxiety I would be suffering if I was still drinking.

Hagisonthehill · 15/04/2020 12:22

Yep.Ive limited what I buy and only shop weekly.I had the last of the gin last night so will be dry until SundayConfused

virginpinkmartini · 15/04/2020 12:36

Before the lockdown, I was so looking forward to wetting the baby's head after my sons birth, as well as experimenting with new cocktails. Had him 13 days ago and so far I've only had wine over Skype with my friends and that's it. I know what I'm like with my mental health, and if I start drinking while being confined then I'll probably be a mess in a few weeks. I'll save the drinking for when its all over, and I'll be drinking to be social/ celebrating rather than just to tide me over this shitty time. No judgement from me though, to those who are partaking... Just please make sure you're taking the time to look after yourself.

okiedokieme · 15/04/2020 12:42

Never drink in the house during the week normally (just a pint at the pub quiz). We are getting through wine and gin a lot! It's boredom plus not buying alcohol at the pub of course so not spending more, but it's more units (poor liver hope's lockdown ends soon!) I made a decision not to drink this week, made it to Wednesday so far but feel resolve waning

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 15/04/2020 13:22

I suppose I should be ashamed to admit that we’ve had a bottle of wine or a pint of two of beer every night since lockdown started. That is way more than when things are “normal”.....

Nononononono33 · 15/04/2020 13:29

Definitely increased. We used to be very disciplined by not drinking Sunday through to Wednesday/Thursday. Now a sneaky Tuesday glass of wine or two has snuck into our routine. And Bank Holidays...

iswhois · 15/04/2020 13:30

Yes but I'm curbing it this week and going back to just drinking on weekends!!!

But have been, the weather mainly made it tempting to sit outside with a few glasses of wine!!!!

usernotfound0000 · 15/04/2020 13:58

Yep, started having a drink daily. Not huge amounts maybe 1 or 2 bottles of beer or a stiff gin once the kids are in bed. The sum always makes me want to drink too.

moobar · 15/04/2020 14:20

Yes, usually just weekends but has been most nights.

One or two glasses of wine.

AdoptedBumpkin · 15/04/2020 14:35

Similar level, maybe a slight increase. Less than expected actually.
