Odd message in mumsnet inbox. Message hidden and searching for the user nothing shows up.

Basically that. Would it mean the user is no longer active? I’m more curious than anything else. This is actually the first time I’ve had a message and within ten minutes I think of receiving it, it now says message hidden by user. Which is fair enough, I’m not desperate to know or anything, just confused why trying to send the user a message doesn’t work or simply searching for them shows nothing.

This is how bored I must be lol

Perhaps your username is similar to another forum member and the person sent the message to you not them; or they used the 3 dots on your post instead of someone else’s so a message went to you not the correct person.

Lastly, perhaps it was a spammer or previously banned poster (pbp) and MNHQ were informed and removed the account after the message was sent.

StatisticallyChallenged · 14/04/2020 22:37

There was a spammer on the go, probably that

SleepyNightOwl · 14/04/2020 23:38

Didn’t think of either situation, both sound like they could be the answer. Sorted then.

There is another thread about this in AIBU.

Some concern it is hacking again but others think it is registered individuals.

This happened to me a few months ago

It seems there may be a spate of these at the moment.

Lefkosia · 15/04/2020 00:53

It was a message giving a link to a rival forum which I guess wasn't popular with mnhq

SleepyNightOwl · 15/04/2020 00:55

I’ve seen the other thread since my last reply on here. Weird we can talk about other sites but not that one. Mumsnet are being a bit childish I think.

If another site is spamming inboxes, that sounds bloody dodgy to me.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/04/2020 06:54

It's the message promoting the site set up in response to Mumsnet charging for very basic forum features. I got it and can see that it's now been deleted.

MichaelMumsnet · 15/04/2020 08:15

Hi all. Yes, it's because there was some dodgy spamming going on. We've posted about it here.
Apologies for any upset.
