Awful loud noise from hospital behind our gardens

This is a tough one as it’s a hospital building and the NHS have enough to deal with at present. Our garden backs directly onto the car park for a rehabilitation hospital and is generally really quiet . Three days ago the loudest buzzing noise started which is coming from a fan, I know as the same thing happened last year and the estates team finally gotten fixed after several emails etc .
The noise is so loud and irritating we can’t sit in the garden and my husband who is a Dr couldn’t sleep with the window open after a night shift .
I feel bad complaining but the only open space we have to use and relax has become practically unusable as the noise is grinding, it must be way above the acceptable noise decibels . What should I do ?

Contact them and tell them. They are busy but they probably won’t be fixing it themselves anyway.

FlibbertyGiblets · 14/04/2020 21:20

Contact estates again, explain that the noise is disturbing your dr husband's sleep and can they put a plan to fix it in place asap please.

YangShanPo · 14/04/2020 21:22

Get your dh to contact them as he is someone who works there and it's affecting his sleep.

Minty2020 · 14/04/2020 21:24

I have contacted them very politely but they never got back to me . I felt really stressed today as I wear a hearing aid and the noise was making my hearing aid have feedback !! It sounds ridiculous but true 😂

Escalate to the Board. I know it is rubbish timing but still.

DishingOutDone · 14/04/2020 21:37

I'm sure they don't want things going wrong with premises, equipment etc., its not as though a doctor is going to come out and fix it so definitely make a complaint - well you are really just asking them to get it sorted. I wouldn't worry about emailing - give your number and ask them to call you about it too.

Poppinjay · 14/04/2020 21:40

Complain.

A noisy fan cold be a fan that's about to break and that could take something important out of commission.

Minty2020 · 14/04/2020 22:01

Ok I will give them a few days to get sorted first. Timing is rubbish and I feel bad complaining about a noise however irritating it is. Thanks for the feedback. Stay safe xx

I agree with PP, it could be a vent / cooler / air con , they won't want that to breakdown at any time but esp right now.
Can you get a phone number for estates ? Talking directly to someone is likely to get better results , it could be useful if you could discribe what you think is wring , ie fan catching on its guard / worn bearings / something stuck on or near the blade etc .

Download a free decibel meter on your phone and find out what dB it is, anything above 80dB causes discomfort to the ears, anything above 120dB causes pain. It might not be too accurate but it may help give an indication of how loud it is for you if you show them the results in an email or something! Hope this helps.

I wear hearing aids and this made me wince. It must be loud, you have my sympathies.

Owlight637 · 15/04/2020 10:08

Definitely contact them. Their estates department and engineers can still help.

Ifonlywecouldwishuponastar · 17/04/2020 09:47

Sympathise with you op rehearing aids.

Minty2020 · 18/04/2020 16:25

It got fixed as there was a problem with the cooling system. I did get a snide email off one of the secretaries though but to be honest first the problem needs fixing for the hospital and secondly it’s wasn’t her garden that was affected 😂

Good, glad its sorted. She can send as many snide e-mails as she likes as long as the thing is fixed eh?! Grin
