How to wear this sack... oops, sorry, I mean dress

Via a circuitous route, I have this Toast t-shirt dress.

This is completely unlike my usual style and I'm not even convinced I like it. However, in anticipation of warm days with nothing to do but knock around at home with just a weekly trip to the hustle and bustle of Aldi, I'm interested to know how it's supposed to be worn.

It comes to about 2 inches above my knee.

Other garments?
Footwear?

Teach me your ways, Toast-fans.

a belt in the centre would give it some shape

HelloTerrance · 13/04/2020 15:04

What does it look like on? Do you not just wear it with wedges?

Looks fine to me, I like a khaki sack. I'd just wear it with birkenstocks.

Changingthenames · 13/04/2020 15:29

Probably Birkenstock’s and a chunky leather black belt. Even just a across shoulder bag would give it a bit of shape.

Giraffecantdanse · 13/04/2020 15:31

These dresses often look better on than off. You just need some accessories and enjoy the freedom.

Dora26 · 13/04/2020 15:34

Reminds me of Meghans first outing with Archie. Personally i’d do belt and birkies or espadrilles

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 13/04/2020 15:36

iron it
birks
tan
insouciance

DidoLamenting · 13/04/2020 15:39

Unless you are very slim a belt will make it look like a sack of potatoes with a rope round it. It looks fine as it is. It's meant to be loose.

Do you have any long, brightly coloured scarves? Or big, chunky jewellery?

Footwear- anything flat will be fine apart from trainers. Canvas shoes, espadrilles, flat boots (any length) ballet flats.

ghislaine · 13/04/2020 15:54

I’m sorry but that looks only fit for cutting up into rags. Have you actually tried it on?

HollowTalk · 13/04/2020 15:55

I think you have to be thin and flat chested to get away with that dress.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 13/04/2020 15:56

Try it on - it’s probably fine loose with sandals and perhaps a statement necklace.

WifOfBif · 13/04/2020 15:57

I like it!

No belt, white converse or trainers.

MrsGrindah · 13/04/2020 16:01

God not Birkenstocks. Maybe tan mules, clean white trainers ( if your legs are goo) or espadrilles? But my honest answer is tuck it into jeans and wear a jumper over it!

CommunistLegoBloc · 13/04/2020 16:03

Do not put a belt with it. It is meant to be that shape, and on a lot of figures it will be very flattering. You'll ruin the line of it with a belt.

mnahmnah · 13/04/2020 16:06

Some tan sandals, long necklace and a small across the body bag

Babolat · 13/04/2020 16:47

Ooh! I really like that OP. I’d go for tan leather flip flops or delicate sandals, funky cuff type bangle and necklace.
No belt, you’ll look like a sack of spuds unless you’re a teenage model and even then it’s dodgy territory!

Thinkle · 13/04/2020 16:51

What @Ihatemyseleffordoingthis said. Although I’d also wear White trainers. Tan essential.

MairzyDoats · 13/04/2020 16:55

I like it, it's classy. Needs tanned legs, big sunglasses, I'd wear wedges or tan leather flip flops with it and my silver cuff.

Wilding · 13/04/2020 16:58

Yep - no belt, Toast stuff especially is often designed to be loose and as pp have said, usually is much more flattering off the hanger! Accessorise with some big earrings and a scarf.

Pinkpepper9 · 13/04/2020 17:11

I think it’s really cute. I wouldn’t wear a belt with it, just keep it loose. I would wear with layered gold jewellery, bag with a long strap, sunglasses, white trainers/nice flips flops/ leather sandals. Would look good with a tan if possible. If you’re feeling brave I would wear some doc martins and ankle socks!
