Owning a rental property abroad (esp ski chalet)

We are seriously considering buying a ski chalet / apartment in a popular French ski resort and renting it out (once the whole Coronavirus thing has calmed down).

For anyone who has done similar - in any setting - are you pleased you did so? Is it a constant worry? Any thoughts on doing this would be hugely appreciated.

No direct experience but I shared a ski lift with a couple of chalet owners in France bemoaning the problems they had with getting laundry done between changeovers. There was definite favouritism towards local French owners

Some friends of mine bought an apartment in France in a ski resort. It is part of a complex/hotel arrangement and the deal is that they get to use it 2 weeks per year (plus use of all the other on-site facilities) and it is rented out for the rest of the time. They do not need to bother about cleaning, linen changes etc.
They are very happy with this set up, less so that they live in Northern Italy and weren't able to use their second week of skiing this year due to lockdown.

No experience, but I would look at a resort where there's lot of summer visitors as well (walking etc) to maximise income.
