Is it worth buying a Slendertone for my tummy ?

So I'm getting Facebook ads about it, it's 20% off and there has never been a better time to use it - could even have it on when I'm working. I do exercise but have just turned 50 and all excess is accumulating on my tummy giving me a barrel like appearance.

Please no comments about it being an essential purchase or not, just views from people who have tried them out as to if it's any help at all.

I've always wondered if these are any good - sorry, that's an unhelpful comment, but at least it bumps your question.

Slendertone is only good for toning muscle, but it does nothing to reduce or burn fat.

so you need to be slim for it to do anything at all.

I used to use one regularly and it did work, but if I put on any weight all it would make it useless as the fat acts as an insulator so the electrical stimulation can’t get to the muscles to do the work.

In the gym circles I used to run in they are well known for being a great top up for muscle toning for already fit and defined people, but a complete waste of money for most of the people that buy them hoping to loose some inches around their mid section.

Thanks for replying both especially Elemental. Yes there's definitely a layer of fat round my middle Confusedso maybe not worthwhile

Hi. I have one. To be honest I've never had any noticeable results with it but then I can't bear the higher levels, it is very uncomfortable if you have it up high enough to be effective! Also I've never stuck with it more than a month at a time. I've not used it for a few years as I am fat round the tummy these days, and as a PP said, no point having a beautiful 6 pack if it's lurking under layers of flab!!

I don’t know how accurate it is but I was once told by a fitness instructor that 20 minutes of hula hooping is just as good as 40 minutes on a slender tone, but it also burns fat and gives you cardiovascular exercise too, so it’s way more effective.... quite a few people agreed with her which it why it stuck with me.

I do have a rather unused hula hoop in the garden that I bought several years ago on mumsnet recommendations. I'll see if the dog lets me do it, but as I already do an exercise video at home each day - alternate between Joe Wicks and weight ones - and walk the dog between 1-1.5 hr it will more likely be 5 minutes hula hooping each day Grin
