An Easter to remember starting with menu...what’s on yours?!

My DC love Easter and we always go all out, normally including family. Easter egg hunts, family meals, games etc.

I’m hoping to make it as fun for us all and firstly want to tackle Easter lunch/dinner. We have a roast most weekends and my husband is a good cook so what can we make that would be a little bit special...

What’s everyone else having?

DH is in the kitchen crossing his buns right now for tomorrow! We also always have a fish pie on Good Friday, couldn’t get any smoked haddock this year but it will have cod, salmon, smoked salmon and prawns.
Sunday will be a roast but I don’t know what. Probably chicken or turkey or gammon since DH is making s at lamb and pork and I don’t fancy beef. Egg hunt in the garden.

SpicedCamomile · 09/04/2020 22:46

Should read “DH is making meh faces”

whodunit3 · 09/04/2020 23:00

@ellanwood that sounds like my kinds of food!! 😍

What cut of lamb would you use and is it a recipe you use or just go on taste?

The only reason we really celebrate Easter is because my mum likes to. Usually it's a lamb roast cooked by her. I feel like I should do some form of roast for my dd's sake, but I really don't enjoy them so I've decided to make her a mini roast with chicken breast fillets, I don't know what to do for myself though. Maybe some hake with some kind of potato dish and vegetables.

Rockbird · 09/04/2020 23:05

Hot cross buns all day tomorrow. Saturday as normal. Sunday boiled eggs and Easter eggs for breakfast. Chocolate for lunch and roast beef and all trimmings for dinner. No pudding because chocolate.

Bluebooby · 09/04/2020 23:05

I will do an Easter egg hunt in the garden for DD.

Titsywoo · 09/04/2020 23:11

Easter lunch is beef wellington with mash and lots of veg, pudding will be either cherry pie and custard or brownie and ice cream.

LER83 · 09/04/2020 23:32

I'm not overly fussed by Easter, so Good Friday having roast pork, saturday having pizza as my children won them in a competition, then Sunday I'm doing an afternoon tea - scones, fancy sandwiches, hot cross buns and cake. Monday will be something simple as have a feeling will still be feeling full from afternoon tea! Usually would go to my sisters for Easter as it's her favourite time of year, but obviously wont be doing that this year.

EKGEMS · 09/04/2020 23:39

Breakfast will be cinnamon buns. Good Friday virus glazed ham with cheesy potatoes and cranberry sauce and peas and hot rolls and banana cake

EKGEMS · 09/04/2020 23:39

Citrus glazed ham omg what an awful autocorrect

BrandyandBabycham · 09/04/2020 23:43

Has anyone tried Aldi’s hotcross bun pudding?

Tr1skel1on · 09/04/2020 23:49

I have to be honest. I live somewhere extremely rural, as a special the curry house from the town 17 miles away is delivering tomorrow. I think I'm going to order every veggie side dish they do, plus a garlic naan, any other suggestions extremely welcome, as long as they are veggie. I can't wait!!!! I think it might be another month before I can have a proper curry :)

Xiaoxiong · 09/04/2020 23:57

Frozen pastries freshly baked for breakfast, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, orange juice, coffee. This will be mid-morning brunch.

Easter egg hunt in the afternoon, hot cross buns and tea.

Early dinner of shoulder of lamb roasted with tomatoes, little potatoes, basil and pecorino. Dessert will be apple crumble and custard. (Wish I could have found some rhubarb as that's my favourite, heigh ho - plenty of time for that soon enough I guess.)

TheStarryNight · 10/04/2020 00:25

@EKGEMS It did give me a wee chortle though Smile

whodunit3 · 10/04/2020 09:06

Tonyaster · 10/04/2020 09:32

virus glazed ham 🤣🤣🤣

maddiemookins16mum · 10/04/2020 10:13

We’re having fish and chips tonight (homemade)
Sweet and sour pork shoulder steaks tomorrow
I have a fabulous leg of lamb in the freezer (got it from the village butcher last Saturday on my early morning visit), with buttered new potatoes, lots of lovely fresh veg and sticky toffee pudding too.
I feel slightly ‘cheated’ at not having any Asda bunny crumpets though 🤣🤣

MistyIsland · 10/04/2020 10:23

Good Friday (today) we are having a bbq

home made burgers
Normal sausages for the kids
Chilli, chipotle and sausages for DH
Some homemade kebabs
Steak
Salmon
Salad
Pasta salad
Might do some homemade chips or jacket pots

Tomorrow

A full English breakfast
Lunch will be sandwiches
Probably a curry I’ve got a new recipe I want to try out

Easter Sunday

Will be a full roast lamb dinner (so excited)

I haven’t thought about much else yet

Weebitawks · 10/04/2020 10:23

We usually have Easter lunch with my parents who live up the road. Mum has ordered a lovely big fillet of beef to split between us so in a way we're sharing a meal.

I'm also making cauliflower cheese with truffle
www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/four-cheese-cauliflower-gratin

Also my dad usually does an Easter egg hunt round his garden, but he's written one for ours and we're going to video the boys doing it for him.

CumbiaVillera · 10/04/2020 10:25

Definitely not lamb. I can never understand how a celebration of life starts with the early death of one of the cutest animals on earth!

Tonyaster · 10/04/2020 10:27

CumbiaVillera my dcs agree with you! That's why we are having a turkey, also lots of leftovers for days ahead.

UAintMyMuvva · 10/04/2020 10:32

I can’t stand lamb, so we are having roast chicken and a ham instead. Would’ve gone for turkey but couldn’t find any in the shops.

I never usually make a big deal of Easter, but this year it feels like we need a happy celebration more than ever.

PennyArrowBar · 10/04/2020 12:03

This is a lovely thread. It's made me smile, thanks OP!

Depending on what I can get from the shop tomorrow, I'm planning on doing burgers with bacon, onions and salad etc. Coleslaw, cheeses, tabouleh. Brownies and ice cream for pudding. And prosecco. Lots of prosecco.

Easter egg hunt for my DS and hopefully will be able to get him a little present.

We would usually be at church and then all together with my family for roast lamb and jersey potatoes etc at my parents or a buffet at my house. We're planning on doing a Skype call instead.
