I’m 32 weeks pregnant and quite a large filling in my tooth just fell out.

Not experiencing any pain at present.

Would you get an emergency dentist appointment or hold for now?

I'd try. Presumably you know you can get free dental treatment when pregnant?

Dingdongthewitchisbread · 06/04/2020 11:01

Yeah I am aware. It’s not money that’s my concern, it’s the social distancing I’m concerned about.

IF you are in the uk you will NOT get an emergency appointment for this situation.
Not unless uncontrolled pain, bleeding, swelling or trauma .

can you get one of those emergency temporary filling kits?

If you are not in pain leave it there is no rush

I would ring your dental surgery and ask them for advice .

You won't get an appointment for this.

Go to the pharmacy and buy dentek.

It's worth ringing your dentist for advice on how to care for your mouth, and also what to do if there are any symptoms which mean you might be eligible for emergency care (abscess/infection/swelling/sepsis risk) or severe pain.

This happened to my DH last week (the filling falling out, not pregnancy!).

He rang our usual dental surgery and listened to a recorded message which listed what they counted as an emergency, and broken teeth were counted. Anyone with an emergency was advised to call another number.

He did that, had to leave a message, and someone called him back within minutes. The advice was there was nowhere at the moment that could see him, but there were plans for setting up 'dental pods' to see patients at some point.

He was advised to go to a pharmacy and pick up a temporary filling kit and fix it himself, which he did and found fairly easy to do. The only problem is that the temporary filling keeps falling out. It seems to last from around 2 - 3 days and then comes out.

He's bought another filling kit as he's been told to keep doing it until he's able to be seen, but no-one knows when that will be able to happen.

Highly doubt you’d get an appointment, sorry.

The worst part is I don’t have a dentist as we moved recently. I’ve found a local one and called them and as others have experienced, they are shut. Said to leave a voicemail and someone will come back to me.

I’ve just sent DH to the local pharmacy to hopefully get some Dentex. Thanks for the advice there!
