Will open tinned sweetcorn last a week in the fridge?

I'd have thought up to a week is ok? It's stored in a dish with foil covering, so not a sealed container.

Being ultra cautious as food poisoning can easily land me on a drip (type 1 diabetic) and now is a really shit time for any hospital trips.

But this shouldn't be a problem, right?

Possibly not a week. Goes furry and the brine goes 'snotty'.

HeffalumpsCantDance · 04/04/2020 22:59

2-3 days is usually what is recommended. Change the water daily, and it’s better in an air-tight, non-metallic container.
It seems daft to risk ill-health for something so silly, I wouldn’t eat it and I’m not usually over-cautious.

AbsentmindedWoman · 04/04/2020 22:59

Ah no, gross!

Would've thought it a more robust thing. Sigh.

It’s vegetarian so I wouldn’t be too worried and would eat as long as it smells ok

Zebrasinpyjamas · 04/04/2020 23:01

No I don't think it would last that long . I don't think it would be poisonous but it wouldn't be tasty or nutritious anymore so why risk it?

Agree with pp- re air tight containers being better.

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 04/04/2020 23:02

No. I use it in lunch boxes every week. It goes slimy after about 4 days! Yuk

AbsentmindedWoman · 04/04/2020 23:02

I was trying to eke out a tin for longer. Generally I eat it over 3 lunches.

No don’t risk it if it could lead to you being in hospital. I’m healthy and would bin it after 3 days.

mbhgfcbyyrrx · 04/04/2020 23:03

I wonder if you could chuck it in the freezer?

TW2013 · 04/04/2020 23:03

You can freeze it. Little bit mushy but fine to go in sauces.

LizzieSiddal · 04/04/2020 23:04

If any is left after 3 days, I just eat it with whatever I’m eating for tea that evening.

BikeRunSki · 04/04/2020 23:04

Freeze it.

PurpleCrowbarWhereIsLangCleg · 04/04/2020 23:05

No, tinned sweetcorn is HORRIBLE for going manky. Freeze it & use in cooked dishes? Or if you mix it into tuna mayo it's more stable.

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/04/2020 23:07

I'd say 4 days in the fridge, but put it in the freezer and it'll be fine.

AbsentmindedWoman · 04/04/2020 23:07

Thanks everyone, will give freezing the remaining a go.

If thawed out then would it be fine to mix with tuna mayo? Not bothered if it's not quite as crisp.
