NHS Volunteer responders - has anyone else not heard anything?

I volunteered quite early on (I think the first day that they opened up the site), downloaded my DBS and then clicked on the link to verify my email and I've not heard anything since. I have checked my spam box too.

Has anyone been asked to do anything yet?

I haven't heard anything either. The app keeps saying that they need to verify my identity.

BeautifulBirds · 04/04/2020 21:18

Several family members have been told they cannot verify their identity so have been rejected. Very odd as they certainly look like the photos and one has a high level security clearance from a previous job, so no issues before with ID.

I was accepted 4 days ago. Got the App. Put myself On Duty and then nothing...... I have since had an email saying they are sending out less than 1000 requests across the whole country.

Tbh - I was expecting this not to be great. It sounds great but.....

My DH on the other hand is working with the Drs surgery on a local basis and that is working well.

I volunteered for everything and am fully mobile.

carlywurly · 04/04/2020 21:38

I've heard nothing. Not even with an enhanced dbs cert which I thought might speed things up.

Bathroom12345 · 04/04/2020 21:41

Government departments are well known for getting bogged down with this sort of initiative.

Jue01 · 04/04/2020 21:45

I applied on the first day - and have not heard anything since. I too applied for everything.

ExpletiveDelighted · 04/04/2020 21:45

Mine got approved in about three days but there have been no callouts. Thinking about volunteering locally instead.

MrsJoshNavidi · 04/04/2020 21:46

DH got a call out today. But when he phoned the lady someone else had already responded.

LuluJakey1 · 04/04/2020 21:48

I keep saying this. If even 1000 heard anything I would be amazed. Most people will never hear anything about it again.

They can not organize virus testing for NHS workers
They can not organize distribution of PPE for NHS workers
They can not publish accurate Covid-19 death figures every day

There is no way they can organize almost 1 million untrained, unknown members of the public into a cohesive work-force. It is a vast enterprise that involves identification checks, DBS checks for most, training, communication, setting up team leaders and training them, setting up protocols and communicating them, producing lists of what needs doing by area, matching people to those jobs, producing timetables, having working practice agreements, communicating with every group/person involved. No way they can do it. It ws a big PR exercise to make us all feel good, national pride, all in it together, Dunkirk Spirit and all that.

Bathroom12345 · 04/04/2020 22:01

LuLu. Very sadly I agree with you. I worked for years with various government departments and honestly the waste, incompetence and lack of ownership is staggering. Much better with hindsight to do something local.

I also am confused about the deaths being reported. Are these deaths totally down to CV?

Bathroom12345 · 04/04/2020 22:03

The app seems to be some cobbled together old application.

LuluJakey1 · 04/04/2020 22:18

Bathroom they are not deaths that tookp,ce the previous day. They are deaths that were reported in that time frame but may have takenp, ace across the last week -10 days. They are all deaths that have taken place in hospitals, of people who have tested positive for Covid 19 where that is the main cause of their death.

They do not include people who have died outside of hospitals eg Care Homes, or at home, or people who have died in hospital where they have not yet been tested.
The ONS has just published data for the first time that states Covid 19 was mentioned in another 210 death certificates last week in England and Wales that were not included in the daily figures.

MrsJoshNavidi · 04/04/2020 22:21

We'll never know how many of the deaths would have happened anyway, and his many are C19 related. There are about 11,000+ deaths per week on average in U.K. there have been 3,509+ deaths in 5/6 weeks attributed to C19.
We're paying a high price economically to slow down something we don't even know if we're measuring correctly.

Makeitgoaway · 04/04/2020 22:35

DS applied within the first hour and has heard nothing.

SteamingTheDoorKnobs · 04/04/2020 22:45

I got accepted and have been signing in as on duty every day, but nothing so far. On the app you can see other responders in your immediate area, shown as symbols on the map. There are15 around me. I can't imagine there will be many incidents in a quiet village to keep 15 of us busy.

underneaththeash · 04/04/2020 22:45

Thanks all - my email can be a bit dodgy so I was worried something had got lost.

I do a bit locally for various old people, but I’m keen to do as much as I can. I’ve also been able to help remotely with a few eye problems, but if I’m not really needed for this then I’ll see if I can do some more hands on stuff for local practices.

Grabbner · 04/04/2020 23:24

My ds signed up on the first day, was accepted but has heard nothing.

I tried to sign up but couldn’t get verified.

I’ve sighed up local volunteering - heard nothing from them either.

screwcovid19 · 04/04/2020 23:30

I think it's a bit of a PR exercise.
