Are there certain words which always give you pause for thought?

I was thinking earlier about how, in just a few short weeks. “lockdown” has become so widely used. I always think it should be locked up. But perhaps that has different connotations.

Also “midnight” gets me thinking (clearly I have very exciting thoughts :) ). I presume midnight is a contraction of “middle of the night” - when most people speak of middle of the night they tend to mean 3 or 4am. So really we should be saying of those times that they’re middle of middle of the night!

Any other words that get people pondering?

I think midnight comes from a time when we slept for 4 hours, got up for a couple of hours and then went back to sleep. Pre electricity.
