I need something to look forward to. This has been a crap year so far, even without Corona to perk it up, and we have already cancelled one 'holiday of a lifetime' when my mam died, rebooked a different 'holiday of a lifetime' for June which.....well need I say more?
So, hit me with the best holiday suggestions you can come up with!
We have already travelled far and wide, so here is the criteria:
*No more than 7 hours flight from UK, or if more, a nice place to spend a couple of days, not a couple of hours!
*Something to do. Not just chilling by the pool. Like ancient history, mooching up and down cobbled alleys, having a coffee and people watching.

  • no children involved, but happy to be at a child friendly resort.
  • something luxury. Something really different and special.
  • flexible budget, just for two people(assuming I dont wring DHs neck before the end of lockdown).

To give you an idea, have looked at Hard Rock Cafe on Dominican Republic, upgrading flights and rooms. So something like that. But better😁

No rush.
He is unlikely to survive beyind the end of the 6 o'clock news.

May be looking for a singles holiday with no reciprocal repatriation.

Have you thought about Sri Lanka? Beautiful country, plenty to do and see.

Not sure if it’d be the best place to go as a single though? 😊

Will start researching Cosmos, any recommendations welcome😊

I always fancied the Azores for somewhere a bit different! www.thecrazytourist.com/15-best-things-azores-portugal/ very volcanic with hot spas and nice walks, and old towns and ruins to explore. There are no resorts as such but lots of nice looking hotels.

I loved Sri Lanka. We did a tour with kuoni and they was a great mix of people. The country is beautiful, there are some amazing sites such as sigiriya, great wildlife, lovely people and good food. You can even combine with a week in the maldives if you are feeling extravagent.

Would your Dominican Republic suggestion meet any of your criteria?

Vicbarbarkley · 03/04/2020 11:44

@Unihorn, God, youve just reminded me about the Azores. I actually started looking into Lisbon/Azores for whale watching a couple of years ago! That is a fab suggestion, thank you!

@crazydiamond222 I do fancy Sri Lanka. We have 'done' (a teeny tiny bit of)Africa and middle aged backpacked around Thailand but never been to Sri Lanka, and if definitely looks like my type of thing!

@Lippy1234 not really 😂😂
It came up on my fb feed and I got carried away by the posh suites and music every night, would probably be bored to tears through the day.
It does still hold some appeal though........no bleddy idea why🤔

The dominican republic was lovely but I dont think it meets the OP's specs at all.

I have been dreaming of a vacation to Canada when this is all over. It's a pipe dream but it makes me feel better.

TravellingSpoon · 03/04/2020 12:48

Also it's a 9 hour flight IIRC.

Sri Lanka is amazing. Not like Thailand or Africa at all. More like India with extra Buddhism.
